Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti found herself in the line of fire during an active court session at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi, Kenya, on Thursday afternoon.
The courtroom descended into chaos when Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, a police officer, opened fire on the magistrate shortly after she had delivered a ruling in a case involving his wife, Jenniffer Wairimu. The incident unfolded after Magistrate Kivuti denied bail to Wairimu, who was accused of obtaining Sh2.9 million through false pretences. Kipruto, seemingly enraged by the court's decision, took matters into his own hands in a display of extreme violence. He entered the courtroom through the magistrate's door and fired shots at Kivuti, striking her in the chest and left hip.
In a swift response, detectives on the scene engaged Kipruto, ultimately resulting in his death. However, the confrontation did not unfold without additional casualties. Augustine Michael Kithumbi sustained an injury to his left eye, Maureen Lepes was shot in the left leg, and Eunice Macharia sustained an injury to her left hand. Magistrate Kivuti's condition was stabilized, and she was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The incident has left the Makadara Law Courts community reeling in shock, prompting calls for enhanced security measures within court premises to safeguard the sanctity of judicial proceedings.
Chief Registrar of the JudiciaryW infridah Mokaya has issued a statement expressing concern for Magistrate Kivuti's well-being and extending condolences to the family of the deceased officer.

@ Ndugu Imara Daima, you are right. Fight or Flight is a human reaction/response to imminent danger. However in this case,I dont see how the shooter was in danger. The Magistrate posed no danger to him, unless you are extending his wife's "distress" to him the husband...
Anyway what I wanted to say is that, carrying guns by police may have been a response to thugs and law breakers having the advantage over the cop especially on the offensive front.Just about all cops in the world have guns today. The million dollar question is,are they well trained, and of sound mind?
Lately there have been numerous incidences of rogue cops running amok, and their actions have been blamed on stress.Granted stress may be a contributing factor, I think the problem lies in the recruitment. Do you remember not too long ago the whole list of new recruits was thrown out due to corrupted process of recruiting cadets? You couple that with the fact that the police force still leads the country in corruption ,the conclusion one draws is that there are more "bad" cops compared to other sectors of our society; relative to their number. And the shooter was one of them...What say you?
Ndugu yangu @ Maxiley:
All the peace loving people of Kenya must demand that corruption from any government employee must be stopped immediately.
Therefore, the current ruling political party should bring to an end this vice or stopped from running again come 2027.
Look at the unnecessary waste of public money when campaigning has not stopped since 2017! Just imagine the gas wasted when these endless unproductive political meetings are held, time wasted, instead of the elected servants of the people spending some time in their offices doing what the people elected them to do!
Unless the current political party in power eliminates corruption 100%, they should not be allowed to dream of running again for any public elective office in Kenya in 2027.
Why can’t Our brother Samoei Cherop Ruto utilize the foreign minister and Kenyan ambassadors instead of wasting public resources traveling abroad as if he’s the only person who is capable of solving Kenya’s problems!
Let’s not forget that when he was the Kenyan vice president, he spent the time expanding his personal businesses and studying for his doctorate while receiving state security for himself and his private businesses.
JAMANI! TUMECHOKA?
@ Ndugu Imara Daima, the actions of this rogue cop can strongly be attributed to corruption. It has emerged that this cop was a terror. He was feared... He infringed upon citizens rights with impunity. Complaints about his unprofessional behavior were forwarded to his bosses but nothing happened. The rogue cop apparently did what he wanted, and nobody could object.
Hopefully sooner rather than later mwakilishi will catch up with articles on his behavour and post it on this forum. The man was unhinged ,to say the least. Again the question is why was he still employed? Most likely the magistrate would still be alive if authorities had done their homework ,and fired,or taken this mad-cop to a nuthouse.

Am waiting for the so-called human rights advocates with their usual rhythm on how muuaji Kipchichir should have been arrested instead of shooting him on the spot.To them expired Kipchichir was more human than Kiveti Monica. But I appeal to other “Kipchirchirs” out there to PUT TO DEATH all political gangsters who have looted hungry billionaire Kenyans money instead of innocent waKivutis.
How did the criminal enter the courthouse with a gun?!?
For those of you who cannot remember the past: there was a time when the police in Kenya did not carry a weapon of mass destruction aka gun. I long for those days when our traditional culture did not allow the senseless loss of lives when one was upset.
Biology tells us say the “limbic system” has a component designed by the CREATOR and whose basic purpose is protect the individual by fighting or running away.
The amygdala basic service is to “confront the danger” or run away. When a human being is provoked, the mechanism is immediately triggered and on duty. Unfortunately, when confrontation is the immediate solution, the best weapon available will be put on task. That’s why the only three countries in the world (USA, Mexico, and Guatemala) that allow their citizens buy and possess “weapons of mass destruction” lead the rest of the world in irrational and senseless killings.
As long as we possess “amygdala” as part of our biological makeup, no human being should be allowed to possess a gun.
