The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is urging an impartial inquiry into the alleged 'mass killing' of residents in Githurai, Kiambu County, on Tuesday evening.
Reports indicate that police opened fire leading to an unspecified number of casualties. Reports of intense gunfire and loss of life have sparked serious concerns about potential human rights violations and the conduct of security forces during protests against the Finance Bill. Eyewitness accounts and viral videos depict a scene of chaos on the Thika Highway in Githurai 45. Reportedly, civilians were caught in the crossfire as they went about their daily routines.
In response to the incident, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called for an independent investigation into what they have termed a "massacre." LSK President Faith Odhiambo questions why a residential area like Githurai had become a battleground. She challenges the government's actions, emphasizing that human rights have been violated and innocent lives lost unnecessarily. The government's decision to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to quell the unrest has drawn criticism with the Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula facing accusations of violating the law by involving the military in civilian matters.
The LSK contends that such actions are unconstitutional and illegal. While police maintain that officers from both Githurai sub-county and Kasarani responded to the situation, residents tell a different story. Some claim that security forces fired indiscriminately, while others assert that protestors had blocked the highway, prompting police action. The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has added its voice to the outcry, alleging that at least 30 people lost their lives in Githurai yesterday with approximately 100 more sustaining gunshot wounds.

@ Menye, what disappoints me most is their inaction. When they see evil in the country they, give it lip service, and that's about it. Case in point is when they complained about high profile cases that were being withdrawn from left to right for no apparent reasons;other than palms being greased. At that time they made some noise.Ask them now if they did any follow up,legally or took any action within their power...Nothing was done,or has been done. And not expected to be done.

Githurai slams have always had a history of strange murders especially when one man was alive who’s believed to be the sponsor for those murders for witchcraft!!!

Folks have you noticed that under pressure some of our leaders are becoming unhinged. For starters, Riggy is blaming Noodin Haji for failure to furnish the president with credible, and sufficient information on anti finance bill, indirectly accusing him of acquiescing and aiding the protestors. This charge has gotten the Mpigs from North Eastern and their elders riled up.They are emphatically shouting"Leave our son alone". Their counterattack also calls for impeachment of Riggy. On this matter, his boss pretty much said,"hey Rigy you should not have let the cat out of the bag".
Zakayo undoubtedly ,is under intense pressure. There is avideo making rounds on social media of The Boss ranting of how incompetent the commander of police is. Infact Ruto in the video claims that this commander is the most incompetent commander in the whole world. Well, Dr. Ruto, these are the people who make up your administration.
To be at ease, Zakayo will need more than scriptures from the bible to calm him down. Iknow its not' manly' for his generation to call upon a psychiatrist,or a therapist. They have this wrong notion that it is asign of ineptitude...mmmm.. short of weakness. But when one is in a sinking boat, one does not care who throws the life jacket.May be Ruto should fire all his advisory team.Get ride of all those sycophants. They have just given you a rope to hang yourself. And yes chickens have come home to roost.
What exactly does Law Society of Kenya do?
