Kenya Power has confirmed a significant delay in the generation of tokens purchased through its Paybill number, 888880, following widespread complaints from users online.
The utility company has attributed the issue to a technical malfunction that has impacted numerous customers. In a statement issued on Friday evening, Kenya Power acknowledged the problem: "We are currently experiencing a delay in the generation of tokens purchased through our Paybill 888880. Our team is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible."
The company reassures customers that technicians are actively engaged in rectifying the situation. The situation first emerged around 8 PM on Friday, prompting an influx of complaints on social media platforms. Customers reported wait times exceeding two hours for their tokens, a task that typically takes just a few minutes. One user, Jeff Kibet, expressed his frustration on X: "What's wrong with this Kenya Power? Surely I am in darkness and yet have paid for tokens."
Another disappointed customer, Mahinda, shared similar sentiments, stating, "I've been in the dark for two hours now!! Tokens can't be processed!" To alleviate the immediate inconvenience, Kenya Power has advised customers to purchase tokens through designated banks in the interim. "In the meantime, customers can purchase tokens through the appointed banks. We apologize for any inconvenience caused," the company says.
While Kenya Power's statement seeks to address the ongoing concerns, it does not clarify whether the issue has been fully resolved. Kenya Power has issued an apology to its customers for the disruptions they have experienced regarding the recent purchase of tokens. In response to these challenges, the company expresses gratitude for the patience demonstrated by its clientele. Kenya Power has alternative digital payment platforms, such as Equitel, Airtel Money, and various commercial banks, to facilitate transactions for its users.
