This is Part 1 of a 2-part series excerpted from my book "WUODHA: My journey from Kenya to these United States" published by Friesen Press in April 2013.

Since antiquity, humans like birds of the same feather, flock together. A case in point is when Jacob of the Bible and his clan were settled in the land of Goshen in Misri of old by the Pharaoh.

Something has disturbed me for a long time every time there is death of a Kenya in any Kenyan community in the US.

I may be a spoilt kid, spoilt by the wonderful customer care service one receives both in public and private businesses in the West.

Jukumu la uongozi sio kitu cha kuchezewa. Kiongozi yeyote yule huhakikisha kwamba anawaongoza watu wake kwa kurahisisha jinsi wanavyoendesha mikakati yao ya kujimudu kutokana na ajira walizonazo.

Kila mjadala unapoanzishwa na viongozi na watawala kuhusu umaskini, umaskini uteketezao Wakenya, mara kimya kinafuata.

Three minutes to three. The lecture hall fills up around me. I’m fidgeting, pretending I’m too busy to notice the empty seats next to mine.

Since retiring in Kenya three years ago, I have tried in vain to get registration as an Engineer, not withstanding I have a valid California License and decades of experience.

The topic of an “apparent” Kikuyu hegemony is a very controversial one. I have met several people who incessantly complain about it.
