Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Cleared of Hate Speech and Incitement to Violence Charges

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has been cleared on hate speech, incitement to violence, and fanning ethnic hatred charges in relation to remarks he was accused of having made on Facebook in 2014.

Kuria stood accused of issuing statements against Luos on his Facebook account after the Gikomba market terror attack that killed 15 people.  Following the attack, he allegedly wrote that the attacks were orchestrated by “Odhiambos” and not “Somalis”.

In clearing the legislator, Nairobi trial magistrate Teresa Nyangene said the prosecution failed to prove that the Facebook account belonged to Moses Kuria, or the manner in which he made controversial postings.

Teresa Nyangene:

I can tell by your name that you don't understand or speak Gikuyu language. Had you looked for an interpreter you could not have cleared this war monger and a hater of the Luo people. No wonder Kenya is full of people walking freely on the Kenyans streets who should be behind bars. Kuria should not be walking freely on the Kenyans streets.
