Fact about Maina Kageni Running for Nairobi Women Representative Seat

Classic FM Radio presenter Maina Kageni on Wednesday announced that he will be on the ballot for the position of Nairobi Woman Representative in the August 8th general elections as an independent candidate.

In a two-minute video clip, Kageni tells Jubilee Party’s Rachel Shebesh and ODM’s Esther Passaris to prepare themselves for a bruising battle in the in the upcoming general elections as far as the Women representative seat contest is concerned.

The presenter further goes ahead to reveal what looks like clearance certificates by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the registrar of political parties to run for the position of Woman Rep as an independent candidate.

Kageni chose a hair weave, as his symbol in the August polls as required of an independent candidate.

However, reports indicate that Maina Kageni cannot be given a nod by the IEBC to vie for Woman Representative Seat, given his gender.

Article 97 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, states that the elective position of Woman Rep is a preserve for female candidates, and the electoral body cannot clear men to contest for that post.  If it does so, the poll body will be in breach of the Constitution.
