Raila Takes Oath as the People's President as Kalonzo Skips Ceremony

National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday afternoon took oath as the ‘people’s president’.

Odinga was "sworn in" at Uhuru Park Grounds in Nairobi at about 2.45 pm. The oath of office was administered by Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang and former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Miguna Miguna.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader took oath in front of thousands of his supporters, who thronged the historic Uhuru Park grounds as early as 6 am.

However, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka did not attend the ceremony to take oath as deputy people's president.

Speaking after the inauguration, Raila noted that Kalonzo skipped the event due to reasons he will explain later. He said he will be sworn-in in later.

Also missing were fellow co-principals Moses Wetang'ula and Musalia Mudavadi.

In the morning, hundreds of police officers who manned Uhuru Park grounds were abruptly withdrawn from the facility, allowing opposition supporters to access the venue. This was followed by a shutdown of main media stations including Citizen, NTV and KTN News, who had camped at the facility to air the swearing in ceremony live.

Addressing journalists at his Karen home in Nairobi on earlier, Kalonzo lamented the withdrawal of his security detail and those of other Nasa co-principals. “Every security detail was taken away. But this is a very important struggle and we are still consulting. The media is under attack and now the remaining security detail assigned to us has been taken away,” said Musyoka. He further termed the abrupt withdraw of police officers deployed at Uhuru Park Grounds, where the coalition's ‘swearing in’ event is scheduled to take place as “tactical”.

Questioned whether the oathing ceremony could be called off, Musyoka remained non-committal noting: “I don’t want to say about that right now. This tactical withdrawal by the police, we don’t know.”

Boycott by other principlals; what it means is that they disagree with Raila and his diehard hard cores like Orengo, Ndii and Miguna. It's now a Luo thing versus the rest of Kenya.

Who saw this coming? Hollywood right at Uhuru park. I can't wait for series 2. Fake Joshua killed it. Fake Joshua = King of Comedy, Miguna Miguna = Registrar, Kajwang = Chief Justice. Running-mate means you run as far as possible from inauguration = Kaloozer

Kalonzo is turning up to be a wise man. I salute him for skipping the occasion. I also salute Watengula and Mudvadi. They realize raila's actions are illegal. raila has become senile and his buddies realize that. It's only yesterday he said he would support Ruto over them come 2022 election, do you think they have forgotten This Mavi ya kuku raila odinga is not going anywhere I promise you. raila will never be president of Kenya

Woiye, where were these co-principals? Akina Weta, Muda, Kasyoks and important assistant co-pricipals like Sultan. Did l read Migunax2 administered the oath? Hehehe. Finally daddy has become what he has always craved...President. It doesn’t matter what kind of president, just president.

Not to be outshone by this new trend, I wish to announce to my fellow Mwakilishians that, I too have been sworn in as president today in my house (cough, cough!). I have been duly sworn in by my desperado sister, keen to suck up to me after she went on a rampage (and even wrote a book about it) telling the world I would never be president and in fact, I will die before this happens! I am now a respectful President of deciding what will be prepared for dinner in my household. My reluctant deputy is my son who is not too sure of the implications of this new appointment, the menu nor the ingredients I propose, so for now, he is "tactfully" not fully contributing choosing instead to consult his peers lest he ties himself to his mother's apron forever (wink, wink! get my drift?). The problem is, we happen to have a chief chef in the role already and watching my every move with a squint never seen before, so do I sack him (can't do that without notice) or run him off and declare his services redundant or how shall we co-exist? Please help!

president sukari. It has agood ring to it. My assistant was tempted to call you sukari baba-taifa,and she translated it to english as Sugar Daddy ,but i quickly told her to withdraw, before rumors started flying around and tainting your upright image.

That's right @Sukari. Now what next after the comedy show? Cabinet with legal instruments? ngo'. Occupation of State House and DP's residence? ngo'. In essence they will remain just an opposition on stilts. And RAO gets to achieve his dream of having a "president" title next to his name. Hiyo tuu. And get this kind of media attention on Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/africa/the-latest-kenya-opposition…

NASA or NRM now has to answer to its gullible delusional followers these hard questions.

MaragA (not verified)     Tue, 01/30/2018 @ 09:34am

Also Rao said, "Tumekamilisha ahadi yetu na wakenya".

That's it? That all that mattered was for him to be called (people's) president. Prizzz! Anyway that means we can now put the shenanigans aside and concentrate on nation building. Hopefully.

I am really happy for all Raila supporters here on Mwakilishi and the whole world over. You now have a president they can call their own. Now they can focus on making a living just like the rest of us did when Uhuru was sworn in... and we can all get along.

Sukari (not verified)     Tue, 01/30/2018 @ 11:58am

Ben, content in having a toothless president? No power to do anything. He was more powerful when he was an MP for Kibera, although he did nothing at all for those poor souls. Waste of resources, whilst a stone throw away we had people made homeless by a fire the night before. I also take issue that he was sworn in by the bible. A mockery to God, but he will suffer the wrath of this contempt. The muslims would not have their holy book disrespected this way. Ashindwe!

@Maraga, clearly #whileIwasawaybabareachedclimax.... now that we have realized our dream as president, what is the next step? Poor wafuasi, hata leo mkate na soda haikupatikana, I hear from the grapevine that there was discontent that the wafuasi were left hungry besides the disappointment of running mate fulfilling his name with actions. Heh na kweli. "Ati" even GSU and KDF were watching with binoculars miles away with vicheko yuugest. My maoni right now is , I can now plan my Kenyan vacation without wasiwasi, NASA vitisho has climaxed and now I can go and build Kenya

Yes sir, asante sana. Now #whileiwasawaybabaclimaxed :-). Hahaha , the cartoonish swearing in was a sight to behold. Who knew Weta, Kalooser and Madvd are such cowards and traitors to baba loool , walilipwa na chupilee - that is the cry on the streets :-) . Now that we have climaxed, can our dear liberator take a chill pill and let the rest of us move forward building Kenya. Now that Canaan has arrived there are many unanswered question such as where is the new White oopsie State house situated, who are the key cabinet people, who is the CJ of the new republic formerly know as Kenya ? Where is the after inauguration ceremony taking place, oh so many questions, so very few answers timbim or is it tinbim?

formerlaryguest2, those two are together, troll through the posts and you will spot them! @Njai, take it "vely, vely easy". Tomorrow is another day and we are yet to be served the tea on Kalonzo na wenzake. To be honest, these guys are comical. I bet there is a movie maker somewhere scheming to make a sequel on this. Raila will die a happy man now, knowing he has fulfilled his father's dream, albeit in his dreams but played out to the masses! Don't drink and drive though, mashetani za Raila might still be on the loose hopping mad that the state house is just but an aroma for him! Remember the infamous Uhuru quote? Meza mate sisi tukitafuna nyama! Wamemeza mate mpaka wakawa na ngae........ To think these people had me worried the other day!! Thanks MaragA, Hon Kenjuu for keeping me in check!

Sukari (not verified)     Wed, 01/31/2018 @ 02:59am

@Maxiley..Mhhh... don't let it get to my head or else I will have Railaism and parade around believing I am one! Tell your assistant to try sukari mama/dada taifa... (to be precise of my gender), but that would loosely translate the same as sugar mummy. Not buying that! So how about president Sukari wa taifa? Don't need that also as no amount of sukari will sweeten the rot in taifa Kenya! I will stick to president of nyumba ya sukari as nominated, thank you!

That's the line that made me think that you are Mr.president.Itook achance, thinking if you were a female you could have used "my son"...Anyway,I played it safe, and blamed my assistant...By the way, its also safe to be gender neutral to avoid sexism:)

Ati gender neutral , that only applies to politically correct Forums, hapa me I want to use she and he , so Sucre' kumbe you are a mwari( young woman) , glad to know there inother chick around here except Doreen, sometimes she/he sounds Gender neutral especially now she"throwing around" Christ name in vain and then proceeds to wish Kikuyu's bad Karma - which translates to RAILALISM...

Sukari (not verified)     Thu, 02/01/2018 @ 03:23am

Anonymous, I suggest you take some lessons in the English language. Let me translate for you. Lest he ties himself to his mother's apron means (pay attention now) being tied to me as mama president of my house. Got it? Why do you find it hard to believe that a woman can participate in matters you guy consider male. Wake up baba, but if it satisfies your ego to think I am gender whatever you imagine, then let it be. That will not change anything and that applies for you too Maxiley. @formerlyguest2, I have always known you are female and take you as an equal. As you remember, we had that infamous exchange back in the day, lakini tuko tu. Yes, I am female with a son in tow and proud of it, and believe it anonymous, if I was a Chris Jenner (as your sad mind seems to suggests), I would be out there flying the flag. The truth of the matter is that your prejudice cannot get past the fact that women can be just as good as men in airing our views. Come closer to understand why: BECAUSE WE ARE EDUCATED JUST AS MUCH AS THE MEN, IF NOT MORE. I hope you have educated women in your family as your ignorance is of the highest level. I am not one to brag, but as you are taking me there, I could match you and bet beat you to anything given half a chance. Formerlyguest2, I can't believe these brothers! Yaani one can be judged by their faceless communication and assigned to either female or male pending how one comes across. It's good to have a critical mind for I have always wondered if Guest one is indeed female as one appear to think or male. I suspect male but the likes of anonymous may think she/he is too thick to be male! Ignorance! Bring it on.

You have no idea how many times I was called a kijana here when I aired my views, at times I was attacked papa hapa not too long ago by someone who for some reason had beef with me- never understood why , and I care less really . I was even likened to a person someone met in Baltimore just because I said I live in DMV which is like 3 states combined - which to me was an act of intimidation . Anyway my fellow female , do you, air your views without prejudice, anyone who has issues I have always said - that's on them . We all come here to comment but have other lives that is beyond Mwakilishi . This is why I can never fathom why people go personal on social media ( if Mwakilishi can even qualify to be one )

Sukari (not verified)     Thu, 02/01/2018 @ 06:19am

Maxiley, please take my last post with a pinch of salt. Read the "anonymous" post a 2nd time and realized it is you justifying earlier comment, not a troll trying to attack my integrity. Have always said I am not averse to eating humble pie when I overstep, so samahani. Lakini I still think your persona has been highjacked but I am rest assured that now Formerlyguest2 is back, you will be kept in check. So take note of this SISTER. Imara cottoned on ages ago, so where have I misled you to think otherwise? B.T.W, where is Imara these days? Arudi to remind us that Moi germinated this rot witnessed today, although there are times I had wished his keyboard would RESIST his repetitions. A brother is a brother though, hence I have learned to mellow to his comments, mindful of the fact that it is the difference in us that make us unique and complementary of one another, ama vipi? Sio Ududu or ugeugeu!

At formerlyguest2, thank you for your opinion. Gosh, this is why we had the likes of Kidero slap Passaris and Miguna Miguna attacking her on Jeff Koinange. Anyway, I enjoy a banter and meaningful debate anytime, so I enjoy your posts as they inject some sanity when we are faced with the stone throwers and more recently, a caliber never seen before.
