Kenya Airways to Take Over Running of JKIA from KAA

Kenya Airways is set to assume the running of daily operations of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

Speaking to the press, Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sebastian Mikosz said the takeover of JKIA operations was part of the airline’s recovery path.

“We got the cabinet approval two weeks ago. Investments in JKIA are critical for Kenya Airways,” Said Mokosz.

“We want to follow all the procedures a public-private partnership entails, and we are working on modalities of it now,” he explained.

The move is expected to give Kenya Airways a competitive edge in the face of stiff competition from other regional and international airlines. This will see KQ absorb JKIA staff who oversee maintenance, catering, warehousing and ground handling operations.

“We are interested in growing JKIA as a hub, and by all means the airport is the most important supplier of ours because, without JKIA, KQ will just cease existing,” added Mikosz.

This comes even as United States government granted JKIA  the Last Point of Departure Status, paving way for the scheduled direct flights to New York on October 28th.

KQ management, who cannot profitably operate a small airline will now be responsible for the whole airport! And what's the basis for this decision? Someone pocketed a huge bribe, and that is all that matters. Amazing.
