Our Son is a Qualified Doctor, Parents of Alleged Quack Doctor Mugo wa Wairimu Say

Parents of the alleged quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu have come out to defend their son against claims that he is not a qualified medical practitioner.

Speaking to the media at their home near Dagoretti Market, his mother Regina Wairimu says Mugo studied at the University of Nairobi and graduated in 2000.

“He is my son, of whom I am proud. Even if you came with a big gun and asked me to deny him, I would die defending him.”

“There are lies about my son. They said he did not study at the University, yet we attended his graduation on December, 10, 2000. He graduated from the Medical School at the University of Nairobi,” she says, showing photos of his graduation and party.

She says her fourth born child performed brilliantly in school and was the top student in the region after scoring 540 marks out of 700 in KCPE exam.

“He was the brightest pupil in the neighbourhood and there is no day he did not top the class, from Standard One to Standard Eight. The teachers had even requested that he skips some classes because he was very bright and when he was given tests for the next class, he still passed,” she says.

His father says Mugo got an admission letter from Mang’u High School but did not join the school due to lack of fees. He ended up at Dagoretti High School before proceeding to university.

“He could be sometimes sent home for fees. But when he sat for his final secondary school examinations, he still managed to score a B+ (plus),” Mugo’s father, Simon Ndichu Ndongi says.

While at the University of Nairobi's School Oo Medicine (Chiromo Campus), his family says Mugo worked part time at the Chiromo Mortuary to raise tuition and accommodation fees as well cash for daily upkeep.

“By the time he was graduating, he had a running clinic and he chose not to attend the attachment that was required for him to be absorbed by the Government. I think this is the only mistake he made in his life."

“Otherwise, he is a qualified doctor,” Mrs Ndichu says.

His father suspects Mugo's competitors are the ones behind the woes his son is facing today.

“Everyone who has been treated by my son will tell you that he offered services that were better than even big hospitals. Ask anyone!,” his father says.

Mugo was arrested in 2015 after a video showing him rape a sedated female patient at his clinic in Githurai was exposed by a local TV station. He was later released on bond.

Police are now looking for Mugo for allegedly operating another illegal clinic in Nairobi's Kayole estate. Two of his employees were on Thursday charged with operating illegally.

If your son was the top student in his school with 540 out of 700 means he was in Kajinga school. 540 could not get you to a national school (Mang'u) if you were in central Kenya. Students who got 540 were admitted to district schools. This woman is putting his son in more trouble than helping him. "By the time he was graduating, he had a running clinic" That means he does been doing it for a long time without a license or being permitted to do so.
