Detectives Probe 'Prophet' David Owour over Claims of Forceful Takeover of Church Member's Sh1.5 Billion Property
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a probe into the tussle for Sh1.5 billion property pitting ‘prophet’ David Owuor’s church and the family of a city lawyer.
Citizen TV reports that detectives attached to Kabete Police Station led by DCIO Francis Wanjau on Tuesday raided the property in search of documents that are crucial to the investigations.
This comes after the family of lawyer Jane Njagi accused Owuor’s church of brainwashing their sister into giving up the multi-story apartments in Westlands and Riverside Drive.
The family claims that the self-proclaimed prophet and the church coerced their sister to appoint Lilly Njage, a follower of the ‘prophet’, as a co-director in Shaba Investments Limited, a firm that owns and manages the property.
They further claim that Owuor has been pocketing millions of shillings in monthly rent from the upscale apartments.
One of the apartments has 14 townhouses that rake in rent of Sh170,000 each: totaling to Sh 2,380,000 monthly and Sh28,560,000 per year.
DCI detectives are now trailing the proceeds of the property in question. Detectives are trying to establish who owns the account which has been receiving rent deposits from the apartments.
Ms. Njagi owns several properties in Westlands, Lavington, Riverside, Thika, and Mombasa.
The sale of 108-acre of her land in Thika worth Sh850,770,000 in 2011 is also subject to investigation.
