Kenyans in the US Plead with Government to Extend Deadline for Huduma Namba Listing

Two weeks before the Huduma Namba registration drive for Kenyans in the diaspora closes, a section of Kenyans in the United States have urged the government to extend the deadline.

The listing of Kenyans living and working abroad in the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) started on May 6th and is slated to end on June 20th.

Kenyans in the Diaspora say the 45-day period is not enough to enroll all citizens abroad, especially in a vast country such as the US.

Faith Muna, a Kenyan based in Texas, tells Daily Nation that many Kenyans in the US will be locked out if the registration window is not extended.

Ms. Muna also says that not all Kenyans living in the US are able to travel to Washington, DC to register for Huduma Namba.

While hailing the Huduma Namba idea, Faith says the government should come up with digital platforms where Kenyans abroad can register.

She pleads with President Kenyatta to listen to their cry and extend the deadline.

1. why would citizens of great country kenya be begging or pleading for such a service? shame!!!

2. why is there a deadline? this should be a continued exercise like the way corruption has been a continued! never ending activity in our country of kenya!

I understand the size was hacked recently but the government has downplayed it. Data security is what we should be demanding coz in Kenya someone will end up using your identity to do some corrupt criminal activities and you will suffer forever trying to clear your name.

The hunduma number shouldn’t have deadline but should be a continuous process so that any kenyan can do it.Again the service should be taken to the people instead of citizens going to look for it.For real USA is a continent like Africa so for anybody to assume that all Kenyans in this continent would all go to the designated embassy and consulates is unrealistic and not practical

We suggest a two stage process. Register on line now within the deadline but extend the physical registration. Wait until your next passport renewal or your next visit to Kenya.
Otherwise you will lock out over half the diaspora.

The public relations at both the NYC & DC offices calls for evaluation.

Someone needs to be replaced. This is so,especially when one attempts to seek assistance via a phonecall. Phonecalls are either ignored(esp.at Washington) or answered rudely(NYC).

Question is;do these guys go through their job description during their orientation? Is there a job code in place to guide one's conduct at serving people!!

Their approach on this is so unrealistic. They could have allowed folks to stay with old versions & only renew them on the day of expiry indicated on the documents.

@Frederick Mwangi is correct. You cannot have a deadline for Huduma Namba much like you can't put a deadline for Social Security number, Driver's license, Birth & Death Certificates. Kenyans are born, die, and turn 6 years old every damn day. Huduma Namba registration should be a continuous process and should not be treated like a census or election.

Kenyan government wajipange kabla hawajapanga watu. They come up with things they haven't thought through and will waste a lot of resources just to implement them just for them to encounter several challenges and flop. Huduma namba won't be any different

Some things I don't worry about. Like this huduma namba thing. Why? because I am 6 years old right now. I will turn 7 on June 21! Because the designer of this thing are so silly, I don't have to register for it because I will be time barred. What harm will that do me? you tell me. Some creative design????
