People Insult Me over My Inability to Bear Kids, MP Millie Odhiambo Says

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo says she receives insults from different people over her inability to bear children.

Speaking during an interview with NTV, Ms. Odhiambo said she is a victim of the social stigma that women struggling with infertility are put through by members of the society.

“In my community, people even have names for people who cannot have babies. Some people call me “Lur”, which means a barren woman,” said Odhiambo.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP further explained that some online users resort to insulting her over her inability to bear kids whenever she disagrees with their opinions.

“The people I disagree with end up telling me that is why God has not blessed me with children,” said noted.

Millie, who has never been afraid of talking about her struggle with infertility, has been on forefront pushing for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment to be made cheaper and accessible in Kenya.

She pointed out that the reason why infertility is a major issue in Kenya is that IVF is expensive and most families cannot afford.

“The cost of IVF ranges from Sh300,000 to Sh1,000,000 per IVF Therapy and each couple is required to have an average of 3 cycles of treatment,” said Millie, adding that an embryo transfer costs up to about Sh350,000 in Kenya.

Advocating for IVF is fine Millie but encouraging couples to adopt is even better. There are many children who need the love of loving parents out there. And while we are at it, lets talk castration bcos there are quite a number of fertile adults walking around who have no business having kids. Millie thanks for your courage.

I may differ with you quite strongly on your brand of politics but I will NEVER insult you on a challenge that you have no control over. It small minds that hit "below the belt" to make a point.

It's so sad that Millie is being insulted for what she did not chose...Some of those who are insulting her cannot even give their kids the love and care they need.
What confounds me most is the distribution of availability to have kids.In other words, some people have kids they dont want. They abort or give away for adoption. While others spend fortunes trying to have a child. Unfortunately even with millions spend, there is no guarantee that one would have a child.
Would it not be nice if those who wanted kids got them, and those who dont want not get them?
Adoption is also am option for Millie.Iam sure she is aware of that.

Yes there is born infertility issue which i do support but also it depends with how fit ur yaani uko na kilo ngapi or whether mayb u practiced several abortions as young woman n how many years u spent talking those medications ndio usizae eg pills/those inserted inside/others r fixed on the thighs/arms??So there are many factors which can cause infertility problems but kama ulizaliwa tu hivyo n didn't practice all those nonsense then we need to advocate for ivf but kama ulinjiletea from those example i gave we won't support it.Adopt kids???But i discourage pple calling somebody names about not having kids especially if didn't practice those evils stuff like abortions which is murder. If u murdered unborn kids u don't deserve to b a parent at all.

Newton's Third Law of Motion. Action and Reaction are Equal, and Opposite! No 'Mother' can expose her undies in Parliament, for all to see, and smell, as she did. She has to act like a Mother, before she becomes one!

Waswahili husema "usitukane kilema kama uzazi ungalipo". All y'all who disagree with Hon. Millie Odhiambo politically and drag a personal struggle she cannot control. Somethings dead and broken inside you. Watu kama hawa ni kuwaombea tu. I disagree with her party, some policies she proposes and even how passionate she is when combating parliamentarians and especially male parliamentarians but I have seen the pain and anguish women who want children and can't have then and will never use it against her. Milly is so smart and brilliant mind, Excellent lawyer, mother or not I salute you Madam!

Please Mr hypocrite - withdraw your statement cos mheshimiwa and many more people are going through rough times. It's only that God has given them grace to endure. This condition of childless can get anybody regardless of your status, religion, race, tribe, gender....
Be in her shoes. Suppose is your sister or your daughter? Is this how you respond?

@ combo, would I be correct if I say that, its the same God who has not allowed her to have children, thus far?Why does he let people who cannot even take care of children have them? And can Millie pray, and God reverse her condition... miracle that is?Through prayer...
