‘I’m too Rich to Steal’: Machakos Governor Mutua Says, Discloses Source of His Wealth

Governor Alfred Mutua has told off a section of Machakos leaders calling for his investigation over alleged embezzlement of funds from county government coffers.

A group of leaders led by former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and current Senator Boniface Kabaka urged Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe Governor Mutua for allegedly siphoning millions of shillings of taxpayers’ cash.

Responding to the leaders, Governor Mutua said he is too rich to steal public funds, pointing out that he is ready to be investigated and prosecuted if found to have engaged in corrupt dealings.

"All these allegations started with Muthama ... that I bought vehicles ... these people are thick ... I bought vehicles at a low price just to be able to purchase ambulances.”

"If I am found guilty, please arrest me, but let them be careful what they wish for as they also have questions to answer," said Mutua.

Mutua explained that he began making money when he was still a teenager and does not need to steal since he is wealthy enough. He noted that he has investments abroad, apartments in Nairobi, a five-star hotel in Machakos and an aviation company among others.

"I started my own company at the age of 19 ... I formed a company then left the country. When I came back I started TV show Cobra Squad, whose first series earned me Sh25million and the next one Sh11million," said Mutua.

Mutua ,stealing has nothing to do with riches, but more to do with morals, and greed. There many people richer than you languishing in jails for greed .

Mr Mutua, you are too rich to steal. You have so much that you have even invested outside your country. What happened to patriotism? How shameful, you have too much and some of the people you are governing cannot afford one decent meal a day.
It is a very sad day in Kenya, 2019 and our leaders do not recognize their responsibility as public servants. A responsibility that has placed them in their current positions. They are ready to brag about their wealth as individuals.
What Kenya needs is ethical standards as it relates to public servants. You cannot serve two masters, yourself and the public. No one who serves as a public servant should be allowed to invest outside of the country he is serving. That is conflict of interest.
We are tired of our leaders bragging about how much wealth they are holding hostage as their constituents suffer.
The country's resources belong to every Mwananchi and should help each and every Mwananchi.
The wealth that is being held hostage by these leaders and their families belong to Kenyan's.
Mr Mutua, you and other leaders need to wake up, work and stop bragging!!!

Must be nice to flaunt your "too rich" to your countrymen and women, where larger population can only afford 1 meal a day and leave in squalor, how do you sleep at night. Your own constituency is one of the ones with low income levels, hunger, destitute. Get off your high horse and be human, if you are so rich , why don't you share with those who are not as privileged , just know you will leave all those riches papa haha duniani! What a show off but then again who isn't in that Texas size of a country! Ugh , it is these bastards that make me not stand these thiefs if I see them in public ....
