Uhuru Slams CNN, BBC for Painting Kenya and Africa in Bad Light

President Kenyatta on Wednesday slammed international media houses over what he termed as negative coverage about Africa.
Speaking in London during the UK–Africa Investment Summit 2020, Kenyatta accused international media houses, specifically Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC, and Sky News, of painting the continent in a bad light, adding that he does not watch news anymore.
"I keep telling people that sometimes when you watch news, which I stopped watching, you find Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC, Sky News... talking about something that has happened in African countries and when the guy [the reporter] is signing off he says 'this is John White reporting from Nairobi, Kenya," Uhuru said.
He added: "We have this unfortunate problem created by the media that every single day it's the negative aspects of Africa that are brought out there."
Kenyatta noted that it would be good if the media houses showed the uniqueness of Kenya and each of the other African countries instead of generalizing and painting the continent in bad light.
"I'd like people to appreciate that as much as we seek African unity, each country is unique and I believe Kenya is unique and should be known for its uniqueness," said Uhuru.

I totally agree with him. Media houses have this tendency to find everything negative about Africa and paint it all over the news. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area where homelessness is at a very epidemic level but very little about it in the news. We have so many problems in Kenya but we amplify it by concentrating in what is bad. We need to share often what is good about Africans and Africa.

That is why there is Kenya News Agency and PPSCU to give government spin. Other african countries like Botswana and Seychelles are quite happy with BBC and CNN.

@13 - the countries you have mentioned are still under colonialism; and they like it that way; hence freely consuming the negative reflections of themselves by the CNN and BBC.
Your comment here tells it about your “small” mind sel about yourself! Folks like you don’t see anything good about themselves and have to wait for the BBC and CNN to define you and your oblique way if life.
You come from Botswana and as such you do not know any better! Colonialism is your known way of life; and it perfect for you to live in slavery now and for your generations to come. Your mind have accepted defeat!
Kenyans don’t need foreigners (foreign news media) to ignorantly define who they are, and keep reflecting our country in bad light!
Uhuru was mainly fighting for Kenya, but he also said that a comment like, “Africa is a shit hole @country@“ not even a continent shows how ignorant and foolish foreigners categorize “Africa!” Maybe your Namibian leadership is fine with the negative assessment about your home country! Kenyans are not!

There is good news, and bad news in every country on earth. And when these media come to africa and concentrate only on bad, their is just one reason for that, and that is to humiliate africans. Why because we dont bow to them anymore.
As we forge forward toward unity of africans,we have to consciously encourage "africanism" And that is proud of anything african that is good.We should discourage africans having names like James Dikens. When did you see awhite man calling himself MUsongelewe Otiato,or some african name. Why are we quick to embrace mzungus names?
Next, burn all skin lighteners. And teach dark skinned africans to be proud of their skin.
Let's not give the racists media reason for arrogant, and condescending reports.

@ Mkenya Halisi, I forgot that religion part. With religion, I would like the africans to question the relevance of this Mzungu na mwarabu religions.
They should start by rehecting what is obvious. For example, when did you see a cripple walk,or ablind man see after their they had been praid for? Mzungu's religion tells africans it is possible, and I say show me?
He comes and tells wafrica that marriages are made in heaven, and the same preacher has been divorced 4 times.
He tells mwafrika that he has the true religion, and yet his own people question that.
He says that Jesus turned 2 loaves of bread into 5000 loaves . Wow, talk of eradicating hunger...
All these things supposedly happened many years ago. Why are they not happening now?Because its not possible.
