New Surface Coating Solution Set to Transform Kenya’s Building Finishes

Pavilion Master Builders has introduced Mixx Cement to the Kenyan market through a partnership with South Africa’s Mixx Cement Company.

The product was unveiled in Nairobi as a durable coating solution for modern interior and exterior finishes. Kenya’s construction industry has experienced strong growth and rising demand for modern finishes, but developers and homeowners continue to face challenges in maintaining surfaces exposed to heavy use, moisture and wear.

Many properties require expensive refurbishment work after only a few years, increasing demand for materials that combine durability with visual appeal.

Mixx Cement is a thin-film, cement-based coating designed to create seamless, concrete-style finishes on surfaces including walls, floors and furniture.

Unlike conventional paints or tiles, the micro-cement system bonds to rigid surfaces such as tiles, glass, melamine and wood. After application, the material is sealed with a polyurethane coating to protect against stains, moisture and UV damage. This makes it suitable for high-traffic areas, wet environments and outdoor spaces.

Moya Blight, chief executive of Mixx Cement South Africa, said the product was developed to reduce maintenance requirements while maintaining a high-end appearance. “Hotels told us they need to recoat their walls and floors every three years. Our products last longer,” she said.

The material can be applied with a roller to produce a smooth finish or with a trowel for textured architectural effects, giving designers greater flexibility. The launch also received support from international partners. Simon Pogson, marketing director at UK-based Africa Supplies Ltd, described Mixx Cement as “tried, tested and trusted, especially in Southern Africa”, citing its successful use in other markets.

Pavilion Master Builders chief executive James Kimotho said the company would focus on technical support and training for local builders in addition to supplying the product. “We don’t just provide products; we deliver solutions supported by technology partners who assist us with training,” he said.

Developers, hoteliers and homeowners are increasingly seeking products that reduce refurbishment costs while improving long-term performance.
