Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Cleared to Join Race for Nairobi Governor

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) on Monday cleared former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to run for Nairobi governor’s seat.

Waititu received the green light to contest in the February 18th, 2021 Nairobi gubernatorial by-election as an independent candidate.

This came after ORPP official John Macharia certified that his floodlight symbol does not belong to any registered political party. It was also confirmed that Waititu is not a registered member of any political outfit.

“According to the records held by this office, Ferdinand Ndungu Waititu, ID No. 4307917 is not a member of a fully registered political party as at December 28, 2020,” said Macharia.

It remains unclear whether the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will clear Waititu to contest for the position due to his pending corruption case in court.

Waititu was impeached as the Governor for Kiambu in January this year on charges of gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, and crimes under the national law.

The Nairobi governor’s position fell vacant following the impeachment of Mike Sonko earlier this month.

Sonko was removed from office on the grounds of gross violation of the Constitution and other laws, abuse of office, violation of national laws, and lacking the mental capacity to run the county government.

Sure even convicts deserve a second chance to run and ruin another county. I’d vote for this fool. He’s consistent on two things; stealing and denying. Gotta love a good thief.

What will happen if Sonko wins the pending case against the election? What if Waititu wins in Nairobi then he is aquitted on all corruption cases? Will he be a governor of both Kiambu and Nairobi? What will happen if Waititu or anybody else wins but Sonko is aquitted? Will Nairobi be having two governors?

Impeachment is 1 way out if supreme court upholds. No reentry. Corruption cases don't matter. Chance of Sonko reentry is negative zero. Sad that framers of constitution didn't foresee a governor refusing to appoint deputy

Why not get all the convicted criminal in Kenyan prisons to vie for Nairobi governor! Does the registrar’s office want to us that corruption and stealing tax payers money by Waititu is not a crime? Sonko was removed fir stealing and corruption! He should be cleared to run again if crimes don’t not count in Kenya. No wonder every politician is literally corrupt!

This man has been tested and has failed as a governor, why then is he still qualified to run and ruin another county? Charges: Ksh 580 million tender fraud and tender kickbacks, Corruption and inability to run a local government.

I blame the voters who elect the corrupt individuals to lead them. Maybe every body in Kenya is a thief and that is why you see crooks proudly getting into politics to represent the little thieves. It is what it is!

...ever seen a dog vomit and then turn back and start eating its own vomitus?... yaani ni mbua tu hula matapiko yake mwenyewe....that's Kenya for you....

Apparently the voters in Kenya have given up on their beautiful country to even ask the likes of Waititu, Sonko, kabogo. Miguna, etc to be their governor.

Known thieves, some of them murderers, and a lawyer with a toddler’s mental capacity now aspiring to be the governor of Nairobi county?

Only a qualified psychiatrist can dissect this kind of a make believe situation!

Chapter 6 of the constitution addresses integrity of those interested in public or elective office! Waititu has flatly failed the integrity test and must not be allowed to set foot in Nairobi county due to his corrupt nature! So @emanuel, chapter 6 is the psychiatrist to dissect, slice, cut and kick out Waititu from the governor’s race!

CLEARED? the banana country will never stop to surprise . I mean who is not aware of waititu He is waiting for sentencing i hope years of closed doors

Jasiri (not verified)     Tue, 12/29/2020 @ 03:11pm

No surprise here. I think I can vote for him since he is a confirmed thief and if any one else is elected they too will steal. Therefore no difference. A newly discovered thief or a known thief makes no difference. Only thieves are elected and will be elected in the future. It’s a vicious cycle.

@Loice:

Integrity is a virtue that should be tasted with the populace. Everyone is entitled to run for elective office. Democratic freedom is bestowed within the electorate. They hold key to who they choose to represent them.
Laws like these will or may be abused and used to cut off government critics, reformers, good people hence curtail their dreams just to settle a score.

Glad this foolish thief @waititu got barred never to run for any elective office! Now let’s do the same barring to DP Ruto who has been stealing from us since 1992 through YK92 and other fake deals!

We got to teach the corruption lords a lesson and to set an example to the future generations that gaining wealth by stealing is not acceptable!

I wonder which world you live in my friend. YK92 was not a private campaign wing. Do you understand it’s wasn’t like Mumias Sugar or Kazi kwa Vijana or BBI. The rip off is just happening right infront of 2020 going forward as you complain of 1992. Aren’t you surprised guy or a minute why Baba, the champion of the people, suddenly went mute? It’s because he joined the eating club. They are busy eating left and right.
Don’t take me wrong that I support corruption. I don’t. But I hate sideshows where we seem to have a selective amnesia when it comes to corruption. We cannot be looking at Waititu, Obafo, Waiguru or Sonko from different lenses yet we we want to say we are fighting corruption.

Ndugu @ Malik:

Nimependa sana uliposema:

"...Now let’s do the same barring to DP Ruto who has been stealing from us since 1992 through YK92 and other fake deals!"

Yk92 wasn’t a government entity or a parastatal. It was private campaign organ. Not like BBI or kazi kwa vijana.
If this handshake government had any evidence of Ruto stealing, they would have been singing hallelujah! They would have bounced on him like yesterday. The high priests of thieves are right in the center of the government. The same thieves only target those that don’t toe the line. And protect their other thieves. Obado was slated for impeachment but the high priests intervened. Waiguru was to go but same high priests intervened. This only a tip of the iceberg.
Uhuru was also in ICC. But elected president in the mid of the case! And for 2 terms!
