Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Breaks Tradition, Wears Facemask in Public for the First Time

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu was spotted wearing a mask during her first official foreign visit to Uganda on Sunday.

Her visit to Uganda was aimed at finalizing the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Tripartite project agreement and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

Photos shared by her Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni on his social media pages showed Suluhu wearing a facemask during their meeting at State House, Entebbe.

Suluhu and her delegation broke tradition by donning masks whose use had been banned in Tanzania by her predecessor President John Pombe Magufuli, who downplayed the existence of COVID-19 until his death last month.

She appears to be taking a scientific approach to combat the COVID-19 pandemic unlike Magufuli, who rooted for prayers, steam therapy, and other traditional methods to tame the disease.

Last week, Suluhu announced she will form a technical committee to examine the state of COVID-19 in the country and advise the government on how to respond to the pandemic. She noted that her government needed to assess the country’s COVID-19 situation before imposing any measures.

“The experts will report on the severity of the virus. As a country, we cannot just isolate ourselves like an island without conducting our own research into the matter,” she said.

Kaguta hataki ujinga. You go to Kampala masked up or you stay home. He plans to live & rule for a million years. Covid or Bobby Wine will not get in the way.

@ Mugikuyu, planning and doing it are two different things. Remember Amin planned to rule for ever, and so did Obote. When the dissatisfied masses reach a"critical Mass" their mighty force can move mountains. You cannot oppress people and hope to rule for ever. They will turn the sword on you.Its usually just a matter of time.

Ata MuGiKuyu wanyu,Kamau is planning to extend his rule on Kenyans. But he forgets the hungry billionaires(including those with dirty deals) will turn against him at any moment as COVID has spoiled everything. The Walwa he drunk some two months ago was enough to change Kenyans as he boasted how he was INCHARGE.The following day,Walwa drinking Kamau&Ngina’s son told them that shs 2b.out of shs 3.5. taxation was being looted daily from the same government he is INCHARGE.

It would have been dumb to go the Magufuli way and ignore Covid, knowing where Magufuli lies now. I can guarantee you madam president, that the experts will confirm that there is plenty of the virus to go around in TZ.

There is probably no difference between Kenya and Tz in virus case numbers because Kenya encouraged mass gatherings just like Tz.The lock downs in Kenya are for show as anyone can bribe their way through. But at least Tz did not embezzle covid19 funds. Tz not issuing statistics of covid19 cases is probably the only glaring difference. Same difference. I would not cast stones so to speak.

There is probably no difference in the number of covid19 cases in Tz compared to Kenya. This is due to the fact that Kenya encouraged mass gatherings during political campaigns just like Tz.Tz did not issue lockdowns and embezzle funds meant for the fight against covid19. I would not cast stones so to speak.
