Uhuru Slams the Judiciary over Decision to Nullify BBI

President Kenyatta has lambasted the judiciary over the ruling that nullified the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process.

Kenyatta, who spoke during the 58th Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu on Tuesday, accused the courts of overstepping their mandate.

The president stated that while he is committed to following the rule of law and obeying court orders, he is compelled by his position to listen to the sovereign and supreme voice of the people of Kenya.

“BBI is meant to build bridges, create inclusive politics, and to end the ethnic majoritarianism of two tribes. If the decision to stop BBI had been subjected to a cost-benefit analysis, in other words, if it had considered the burden of choice: If we are in a constitutional moment, is a decision against BBI a decision in support of status quo?” Kenyatta posed.

He added: “From nullification of a presidential election in 2017 to an attempt to stop the will of the people as expressed through BBI, the Judiciary has tested our constitutional limits, but not broken them.”

He pointed out that the judiciary, as an independent institution, should be bound by the consequences of its decisions.

“When the Presidential election was nullified in 2017, we lost Sh1 trillion as an economy in only 123 days. We were losing 1 billion shillings every working hour for the 123 days we held the 2017 election. The citizens will have the burden of losing 30% of our national budget every five years due to the toxic politics,” Uhuru remarked.

At the same time, Kenyatta rallied support for the BBI Bill, saying that everyone, including its critics, agree it is good for Kenya.

“Everyone knows that BBI is good for the country even those who are unhappy with it but Kenyans have embraced fear of change instead of continually striving for a fairer, just, peaceful, cohesive, and democratic Kenya. Those opposing BBI oppose it, not because of its substance, but because they cannot dare to imagine a better Kenya for all,’ he added.

We lost KSh 1 trillion because of Raila. He petitioned the judiciary against your election victory. Judiciary nullified the election and ordered new elections. Raila chickened out. He feared a humiliating defeat by you. You were sworn in according to our constitution after your second victory. In full contempt for you and our constitution, Raila was sworn in at Uhuru Park as peoples president. You did nothing. People's dedication and hard work of voting for a second time was tainted by Raila and you did nothing. Even with the instruments of power, people's mandate to you and having taken oath of office to defend our country from enemies-foreign and domestic, you did nothing. Oh, sorry I forget, you did something - you handed over the presidency to Raila - you chickened out! And now instead of finishing your term and going home, you're busy trying to impose Raila, Gideon Moi et al on the people of Kenya against their will. As to whoever will be the next president of Kenya, that is not your business. That is the work of Wanjiku. It is in the constitution.

@mwororo - so you expect the worst thief in the history of the world, the DP Ruto to take over from Uhuru? Ruto will sell your mother as a prostitute to Somalia and then take off to The Hague jail cells! Blame Maraga for being one of the dummest idiots ever to be a CJ of Kenya! Maraga should return the one trot lion back to Kenyans by forfeiting his pension!

1.Kenya has 44 tribes.
2. BBI is for creating positions for 5 tribe. Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Luo, Kamba and Luhya.
3. The BBI report was not written by Judiciary.

The people who wrote the BBI are to blame for writing a unconstitutional report.

The judiciary is fairly illiterate to write anything legible! That group is made up of conmen who only think about their own stomaches and how to fill the belly with bribes. It is Army if the government that should be constitutionally declared dead, null and void!

If the same efforts were applied in catching the thieves stealing 2 billion as is applied in tracking time lost on arbitrary figures that the economy is loosing through elections we would be even.Furthermore with such a high unemployment rate it boggles the mind how productive and robust an economy we perceive to have yet regular folk can hardly afford three square meals a day.BBI does not guarantee to end ethnic majoritism of two tribes if anything it appears to enhance it by not only having a president a prime minister and even a Vice President who may all come from the same two ethnic groups because when it comes to the top jobs Kenyans will always vote on tribal lines forgetting that when one of their own ascends to the throne he or she eats alone with the exception of his family and close friends

Judge Ngugi is the most corrupt judge in Kenya! He is a judge without economic sense in his head! He wants Ruto as president so both of them can steal Kenya blind! He is a judge no Kenyan should listen to his nonsense! Ruto bribed him with shs 109,009,000 to stop the BBI!

Ruto wants everything for himself as he hope that some day he will become president of the Republic of Kenya! He is a fear monger if DP who has already outlived his usefulness!

Dictatorial tendencies. Courts decisions have got to be respected. Uhunye is wrong on this one. However BBI might be good for the people although that’s debatable.
And I agree Ruto will not think twice, he will sell your mother and that is if she survived Kiambaa
