100 Commercial Sex Workers Arrested in Nairobi CBD Crackdown

At least 100 commercial sex workers were on Thursday arrested during a crackdown in Nairobi CBD.

The operation was conducted by officers from the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in collaboration with the police.

The clampdown came after traders in the city centre complained of nuisance, saying the call girls were operating in broad daylight outside their shops, thereby distracting their customers.

“The traders filed several complaints against the group, particularly sex workers whom they claimed were operating in broad daylight near their stalls,” a senior officer at Central police station told The Standard.

He added: “Some of the women openly entice men walking on the streets. Several victims have complained of sexual harassment by a section of the sex workers, who pull them to corridors for negotiation.”

The officer said the sex workers may have resorted to working during the day owing to the 10 pm to 4 am curfew meant to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“The traders said the sex workers were using foul language near their shops, making their customers uncomfortable. The most affected businessmen and women are those operating on Duruma Road and its neighboring streets.”

Central Day Nursery School along Ngariama Road wrote to the NMS and police complaining that twilight girls had camped outside the institution.

NMS officer William Kangogo, who is in charge of the operation, said the crackdown to flush out sex workers, beggars, and muggers from the CDB will last one month.

So the crackdown to flush out sex workers, beggars, and muggers will last for one month. And what indicators will we see to tell us,your well done job is successfully completed? What you are doing is simply pushing them to another location.
Yep these social vices are created by society, and it has to find solutions. One way to get solutions is to look at how so called "successful countries" have done it.Ofcourse there is no way any society can ride of prostitution, fully to zero.Iam talking about the manageable level where traders will not complain... For starters, if its aprofession,a) legalize,b) register it,c) tax it,d)control it/regulate,and e) have location for it( business district of sorts).(not in the streets. If its not a profession, and its illegal, then have both the buyer, and the seller get equal punishment under the law.
Come to think of it, what is the difference between sex worker, and aprostitute?Ok I get it Mr John is paying wages to a sex worker, while Mr Joe -six-pac is engaging in an immoral, and probably illegal act using a woman(human being) as a vessel for disposal.Ok.
It's all men's fault.

I fully understand that some of these women are single mothers without marketable skills and have hungry mouths to feed to home but that kind of behavior should not be tolerated. What happened to the days when hookers used to sell their wares indoors in places such as Imani House on River Road?

Oh..just because they are not hiding or because it's not legal or moral? Remind those policemen that the men prostitutes are home .. and that it takes two to tango...and maybe, just maybe they should first look at the man in the mirror abd take him to jail first n foremost.
