Family Demands Answers Over Mysterious Disappearance of Prof. Hassan Nandwa

The family of Kenyan lawyer and scholar Prof. Hassan Nandwa is seeking answers following his disappearance last week.

Nandwa, who was representing terror convict Elgiva Bwire, went missing under mysterious circumstances last Thursday.

His family believes Prof. Nandwa is in the hands of police officers following a search in their home by people who identified themselves as police officers on the night he disappeared.

The alleged police officers reportedly stormed the scholar’s home in search of his client.

On Tuesday, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) threatened to move to court over Nandwa’s disappearance. Through its CEO Mercy Wambua, LSK gave police 24 hours to release the attorney and his client.

“We demand his immediate release together with his client Mr. Elgiva Bwire and in any event not later than 24 hours, failure to which, the Law Society of Kenya will file applications for habeas corpus without any further notice,” reads the press release.

LSK said it was concerned about the mysterious disappearances of several advocates and brutal murders of members of the public in recent months, adding that Prof. Nandwa was abducted in the course of his professional work.

“In light of the above, and in line with its mandate, the Law Society of Kenya demands that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Independent Policing Authority expedite the investigations into this matter and indeed all others similar matters to identify the evil perpetrators who must then be apprehended, arraigned in court and prosecuted accordingly,” LSK added.
