Woman Sues Sonko Demanding Sh448,000 in Monthly Child Support

A woman has sued former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko for child support, claiming he has neglected his parental responsibility of providing for their daughter.
Through lawyer Dan Okemwa, the woman is demanding monthly child upkeep of Sh448,450 to cater for food and shopping, rent, security, clothing, house help, entertainment, medical cover, education, transport, and utilities for their 15-year-old daughter.
According to Nation, she wants the court to compel Sonko to pay school fees of Sh86,000, school fees arrears of Sh37,000, Sh30,450 to cater for school-related expenses and uniforms, and provide medical cover and upkeep for the girl pending the hearing and determination of the case.
In the case filed at the magistrate court in Ngong, the woman says their daughter is a Form Two student and is yet to report back to school since it reopened on April 26th. She claims the politician has refused to provide for the minor’s basic needs such as education, good health, food, clothing, shelter, entertainment, and medication
“Sonko and I are the biological parents of the minor herein,” read court papers.
Describing Sonko as a person of means, the woman argues that their daughter is entitled to equal treatment and provision like his other children.
“The unequal treatment has affected the minor psychologically as she does not understand why her father is abrasive towards her. Besides, the minor has been bullied and ridiculed in school because of her surname thus causing her emotional trauma and has indicated she wants to be transferred from the school,” she adds.
The plaintiff claims to have met Sonko in 1999 and later entered into an on and off romantic relationship that led to the birth of their daughter on April 17th, 2007.
“Mr. Sonko has always been defiant and brazen to accept responsibility and assist me with the maintenance of the minor. He has over the years willfully withdrawn support towards the maintenance of the minor thus denying her what is rightfully hers and forcing me to take full responsibility for the minor,” she says.
“The Respondent is a politician and high-ranking businessman within the republic who lives a high-end life and is not willing to offer the minor the same kind of life while offering a high-end life to his other children, which is a clear indication of discrimination on his part.”
She claims that Sonko does not want anything to do with the minor even though he knows he is the biological father.
“I have always been willing to have a DNA test done to prove the paternity of the minor, a fact which Sonko is well aware of as we have discussed the same on several occasions,” she says in her affidavit.
The court directed her attorney to furnish Sonko with the court documents. The case will be mentioned on May 26th, 2022.

Sonko's monthly upkeep of Sh448,450; and same from the mother. It requires almost Shs 900K every month to raise one kid in Kenya. Shs 1.8M (President's monthly salary) to raise two kids.

There are limitations to what one is entitled in form of child support. Both parents are responsible for the child’s expenses. Those expenses do not include money for security, social amenities, etc.

Why now, the kid is 15 years old? how much has she spent on the child thus far?I assume that Sonko has paid zero.
"Through lawyer Dan Okemwa, the woman is demanding monthly child upkeep of Sh448,450 to cater for food and shopping, rent, security, clothing, house help, entertainment, medical cover, education, transport, and utilities for their 15-year-old daughter" Even in rich economies like the USA, that sum is just too much for child support... Granted Sonko may have the means to do so for he child,I do not for a second believe that all that money would go for the child's upkeep. This woman wants the standard of living Sonko's wife has. That's it. What kind of security does the kid need, just curious?personal bodyguard?Certainly every parent wants their kids to be safe,so Iam not knocking her demand.

Deputy President William Ruto has admitted siring a child out of wedlock, rubbishing claims that he had neglected his parental responsibilities.
In a tweet, Mr Ruto summarily dismissed those peddling the claims who he referred to as “busybodies”.
“My 11- year- old child Abby is well catered for including her education in private boarding school. Politicians and busybodies should keep off,” reads the tweet.
In a family matter that has spilled to the public domain, a woman is accusing the DP of child neglect through a court document making the rounds on social media.
Prisca Chemutai Bett, through lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, has filed the matter as urgent at the Children’s Court in Nairobi.
“The defendant has failed, refused and/or neglected to provide the minor with adequate and/or basic necessities such as good health, food, school fees, descent clothing, shelter and medication,” read the document.
It stated that Ms Bett was not in a position to provide basic necessities to the minor, leaving her in a needy state.
“Unless the application herein is certified as urgent, the minor will continue to suffer irreparable loss to healthy growth and educational development,” read the document.
Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) took the opportunity to tear into Mr Ruto’s character with others mocking him over the matter.
Benard Kipkorit twitted; ‘‘How can you cheat on your wife, surely? And we expect you to be honest to Kenyans?’’

Why do side chicks or side dishes complain when their offspring results of their selfish actions do not get equal treatment. You knew the man was married with kids na ukapeana and then you expect the Kenyan judicial system to assist you in upgrading your lifestyle and that of your offspring.Hakuna siku mtafanana just like you your child will have to settle for second class treatment thanks to nosey relatives and friends reminding them of how they came to be.

Wonder why men/ deadbeats especially prominent ones always rush to adopt other children, yet they leave their own flesh and blood in squalor? Ruto AKA Arap Mashamba adopted one yet he had abandoned Abby. Sonko adopted yet now we know he has others as narrated here... James Orengo nasikia wake ni wengine huko poa wanaranda randa tu kama chokora... I can't stand deadbeat people- women or men. Naweza jipata hata nimekutemea mate smh

Once done having kids, get a vasectomy. Having a kid out of wedlock is expensive psychologically and financially. Many men of means in Kenya are going that route. An unplanned pregnancy when one is done raising kids messes future plans. Got a vasectomy three years ago and it has given me lots of peace in case one slay queen “falls through the cracks” in the future.
