Charlene Ruto's 'Office of the First Daughter' Remark Triggers Online Debate

President Ruto’s second-born daughter Charlene has stirred up a storm after disclosing that she runs the ‘Office of the First Daughter’.

Charlene made the revelation while addressing delegates at the 2022 YouLead Summit held at the East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, on Tuesday.

She went on to introduce members of the staff who works with her at the Office of the First Daughter, including her principal advisor and head of trade and investments at the office.

“Before again I continue, I wanted to introduce quickly my team from Kenya. So, I’ll start with the back. This is Mike Sagana, he’s one of my team members. He’s a politician and he’s my principal advisor in my team. And this is Jermaine Momanyi, he is the head of trade and investments at the office of the first daughter…” Charlene said.

It was at this point that the audience could be heard going into disbelief, with clapping and laughter filling the air. “…I don’t get what’s funny,” Charlene said in reaction to the audience laughing.

Her comments triggered mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media given that the Constitution does not provide for any office named Office of the First Daughter.

“Lakini Charlene Ruto surely, now there is an ‘Office of the First Daughter’? Complete with a team of ‘Advisors’ and probably a cabinet. Wueh,” Twitter user @Wachira_254_wondered.

Caxstone Kigata said: “You mean we have an Office of the First Daughter fully financed by the Exchequer?”

Alberto Nyakundi posed: “I am confused over here. Is it a public or private office?”

“Leave alone first daughter, we’ll soon have even first gardener’s office and there’s nothing you will do,” David Rutto opined.

“For the first time since independence, Kenya has office of the first daughter fully funded by taxpayer’s money: fat salaries, guzzlers and fully fledged employees. Can someone say dynasty! The hustler will rule,” Allan Ofula quipped.

Since her father assumed office as the country’s fifth president, Charlene has been going around the country, meeting various county leaders, and even flying out to meetings with foreign dignitaries. In a recent interview, she introduced herself as a climate change activist and a voice for the youth.

“I feel like there is a lot our president is doing internationally and nationally, also our first lady, our CSs, county governors and that kind of thing, but who is standing up for the youth?” Charlene posed.

“Since our president loves the youth so much, we already have a seat on the table, but who is going to push for the youth? That is why I decided to be that person and I’m going to be a voice for the youth and stand up for them and the communities.”

Not sure who to believe. Charlene claims that the office is not funded by tax payers.I guess there is a "first" for everything.
My take is that if some public good comes out of that office, instead of merely expenses, and friction with the public, then it does not matter what you call it.

I think the use of the word “ first daughter “ is a little awkward and misplaced and that’s is the most likely reason why most people are making noise. Other than that everyone in Kenya should be free to donate time and resources if they do wish for the sole purposes of promoting, uplifting and helping the less fortunate. Nothing wrong with that.

Not sure even if she is calling that office"first daughter..."As you can see, its in quotation marks. All I wanted to know is if she was using taxpayers money to fund whatever she is doing, and she has told us that no tax money is going there. We have to trust the she is telling the truth...mmmmm as a christian.

RISASI TU.PUT THESE HYENAS TO DEATH.A bloody revolution is the only solution to STOP GREED by the ELITE GANGSTERS’).I remember complaining alone when Uhuru’s wife used to run health institutions parallel to 48 ministries of health in Kenya.Kenyans must stop looting and many self added luxuries in passing the poop constitution.Examples of expensive un-necessary wastage are-AFFIMATIVE ACTION,SENATE,48 useless governments,49 bloated parliaments,700+must ministries,30+ constitutional agencies etc.

This is the face of entitlement. Someone sent me this video and all I could see was that hairline. She needs to take time off being dumb and go get a transplant in Turkey. Her hair begins in the middle of her head.

She can get the hair line implant done much cheaper in Karachi Pakistan than Instabul Turkey. That is where most insecure black women go to be fixed. Her hai line is looking terribly Shaggis..

In my high school days at Nairobi School when almost all teachers wa wazungu, one mzungu teacher whose name I can still recall used to tell us that when Kenyans take over the school, they will run it to the ground because Africans are subspecies of the human race. At times I believe it when looking at some of the stupid things our leaders do. I wonder how Nairobi School is 53 years later.

You should have beaten your mzungu teacher for telling the truth about Ruto 53 years later! These corrupt conmen have really destroyed Kenya and Africa as their actions affirmed the fears of the ugly mzungu. I hate to tell you that your Mzungu teacher told so; and it has come to pass 1/2 a century later🥲🥲🤣🤣😂😂.

Phew!! Thank Kenyans this is not Raila’s daughter. She wouldn’t have been doing the more charitable deeds Charlene is currently doing but sitting in state house firing people and co runnnig the country.
I don’t get why would anyone sane would complain when anyone comes out to help using own time and resources.
