Court Grants Matiang'i an Anticipatory Bail Blocking His Arrest

The High Court in Nairobi has granted former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i anticipatory bail barring police from arresting and detaining him.
Justice Kanyi Kimondo issued the orders on Thursday following an application filed by Matiang’i, who claimed that he was under imminent threat of arrest by the police and is justifiably apprehensive that his constitutional rights are being violated.
Through his lawyers, he told the court that he received credible information from officers of the Kenya Police that they are under express instructions to arbitrarily arrest and arraign him for ulterior political motives.
“The powers of arrest by the respondents and the Kenya Police are being abused and misused to harass, intimidate and oppress the applicant and his former cabinet colleagues and the former president; and to achieve extraneous political purposes unconnected with upholding the law,” he submitted.
Matiang’i claimed that police officers surrounded and cordoned off his home in Karen, Nairobi on Wednesday night seeking to arrest him. The former cabinet secretary said the officers only retreated after the media and his lawyers arrived.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome have since come out to deny claims that police officers were sent to Matiang’i’s home.
"Dr. Matiangi’s lawyers and some politicians who spoke from the scene alleged that the said persons were police officers sent to arrest the former Cabinet Secretary. This allegation is utterly false," said Kindiki in a statement.
He added: "No police officer(s) or any security agent from any Government institution or department was dispatched to the home of Dr. Matiang’i to arrest, harass or otherwise interfere with his Constitutional rights in any manner whatsoever."

Kenya is fk’d up. Not sure the country has any sense of direction. Who is even telling the truth in this country? Why didn’t the police rush to protect the former CS when the were called if indeed this was a ‘hoax’? Yes, anyone may play a ‘prank’ as Koome puts it, so why not arrest the pranksters? So it it a hoax or prank bwana Koome? Again, any evidence of videos or pictures Bwana Odinga or any of the lawyers present? Stop these games folks.

The only politician whose word was true to me even though I did not live in Kenya during his entire administration was Daniel Arap Moi. His word was his bond. He promised milk for all school children and he delivered. He promised to squeeze the nuts of those who opposed him and Raila can attest to the truthfulness of that promise. He stated that siasa mbaya maisha mbaya and now we are seeing how the average Kenyan is struggling to get by because of bad Kenya Kwanza policies. Hawa wengine hucheza na emotions za wananchi sababu wanajua wakenya wengi huamini chochote huambiwa kama zuzu.
