Kenyan Ambassador Evicted, Attachés in Belgium and Germany Unpaid for Six Months

Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua says several Kenyan attachés in Belgium and Germany have gone for six months without salaries and are struggling to make ends meet.

Mutua, who spoke on Thursday when he appeared before the National Assembly Defense and Foreign Relations Committee, said the attachés are now facing eviction due to lack of funds.

“Our attaches have not been paid for the last six months. Some of them have been threatened with eviction,” Mutua said.

“Shortly we will be visiting the missions outside the country. Some of them are living in very deplorable conditions.”

The cabinet secretary also noted that one of the Kenyan ambassadors has already been evicted from their house due to rent arrears.

“We have seen his (ambassador) video clip circulating. He has gone into alcohol as a result. It is very important that we look into this,” Mutua said.

Mutua’s remarks come after President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua admitted that the government was struggling to pay salaries for civil servants due to mounting debts.

"I know we had an issue of delayed salaries which is the first time that we are having that but it is also the first time we are having monumental debts," Ruto said on Tuesday.

Ruto reiterated that his administration will not rely on borrowing to finance recurrent expenditures, stating that the country must live within its means.

"All I assure the country is that we are not going to borrow for recurrent expenditure including salaries. That is the position of the government of Kenya. We will not do that. We will look for our taxes...We have to live within our means,” he added.

Most of them are buddies of politicians just sucking at the teat of corruption. Let them return home. Shida ni nini?

Precisely @seneca! They do not do anything quantifiable except a show of arrogance!

The restaurants across the street from the embassies are hiring dish washers and cooks if the Ambassadors need money that bad. Let them get a taste of what Kenyans go through in the diaspora.

Ha ha, the hustler government that had no Succession plan and celebrated the win 6 months with no idea how govt finances work. Choices have consequences!

CHANGAMOTO:

They wanted to rule and told us they can be able to rule. Pay civil servants or you hand over the government to another person.

You cannot pay ambassadors yet you just hired 50 CAS at a salary of over 500,000 per month and increased the pension of a 90 year old First grandmother of the nation .Your government is not even 1 year old and the bottoms are up or should I say out.Where exactly or how much are you stealing considering KRA was bragging how they collected more in taxes this year. You have no clue Kenya is not a chicken farm or a maize and bean plantation.

It's time to close all these embassies. What do we need them for?
Just show off?
Close those embassies. They are useless. This is one expenditures that Kenya does not need.

Mutua - send the money you will to the attache folks instead of traveling there empty handed. Why waste all that money well knowing the attaches have not be part d for over 1/2 a year? Common sense dictates!

Ruto will surely leave Kenya looking like a smelly toilet! He can not be that dumb. Now the whole world is laughing at our country.

There is no need for Mutual to visit the Attaches or Ambassadors that would still be increasing experiences.
Pay rent, shame on the government. Just before the government was sworn in there a lot of chest thumping, where is the energy now?
If you can't manage the government, resign.

Consequences of an over inflated wage bill and unnecessary political useless positions. This is not sustainable and will only get worse!!

What does “living with our means mean to Ruto?”
Everyone else has to sacrifice, while he and his inner circle squander whatever little cash is available?
So we don’t have money for hard working regular wananchi, but there’s cash when Gachagua has to be paid Ksh 200 million of corruption money, or when Ruto needs to take another one of his expensive trips abroad??
Notice how he NEVER can say the word CORRUPTION! He never thinks it’s one of the way to address cash flow problems!
Arresting massive corruption within this most corrupt regime in Kenya’s history!!
Everyone of his cabinet members has been involved in a corruption scandal in the past!
That’s the qualification to serve in this administration!
