Kenya Kwanza MP Gave Me Money to Back Petition Against Finance Bill - Okiyah Omtatah

Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah says that a number of Kenya Kwanza legislators have shown their support for his decision to launch a legal challenge against Finance Bill 2023.

During an interview with NTV on Monday, he stated that one of the MPs affiliated with the ruling Alliance even gave him financial assistance to push through with his petition. However, the Senator did not disclose the name of the MP, but said he received Sh10,000 from the lawmaker. Omtatah noted that President William Ruto's comment on wanting to discover which MPs would be voting against the Bill demonstrated that the ruling House was not in order.

On Friday, June 2, Omtatah filed a case in court to stop the National Assembly from passing the Finance Bill. He claimed that some sections of the Bill were unconstitutional and that passing it with the 3% Housing levy would be a violation of national values. The senator claimed that the Parliament and Executive were "in bed" with each other.

On Tuesday, June 6, the National Assembly will bring the Bill up for its second reading. Omtatah expressed his profound appreciation to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance for their backing of his cause. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who addressed the public on Sunday, noted that the petition demonstrated the wishes of Kenyans.

"In June, the budget must be read however on the Finance Bill it's a sensitive issue and am happy Omtatah has already filled out the petition and the petition has to be known that it is the voice of Kenyans," he said while speaking in Machakos

If the Omatatah petition against the finance bill is the voice of Kenyans as Kalonzo says, how then is a representative government supposed to work? Is parliament not the voice of the people?

Samoei: Abuse of power and state resources.

Samoei amefanya hivyo tangu YK 92 mpaka sasa. Rais mproraji wa mali ya umma MKUU kuliko rais yeyote aliyetawala Kenya tangu 1963.

Samoei anafanya mambo kama haya maksudi ili awakasirishe wananchi.

POWER AND AUTHORITY

“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority; still more when you superadd the tendency of the certainty of corruption by authority.”

“Despotic power is always accompanied by corruption of morality.”

“Authority that does not exist for Liberty is not authority but force.”

“Everybody likes to get as much power as circumstances allow, and nobody will vote for a self-denying ordinance.”

“Absolute power demoralizes.”

We now understand the Kenyan problem, it's all about money. An MP/Senator is responsible for the national budget. The president provide proposals, but parliament is responsible for the budget. Now, you have an MP accepting donations to do the job that he or she is paid to do. Would be better if the MPs can disclose the amount of money that the are receiving to support/oppose the bill. The next thing they should address is when they will provide the budget bill.
