Betsy Saina says that she is representing her entire family by running for the United States.
After her appearance in the 2016 Rio Olympics as a representative of Kenya in the 10,000m race, Saina made the decision to switch her allegiance and now competes for the United States. In preparation for her first Olympic trials with Team USA in Orlando, Florida, Saina reflects on the significance of wearing the American colors at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Saina's journey to the US began when she enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where she pursued a degree focused on nursing in agriculture and life sciences.
Saina divides her time between the United States and Kenya, but her main focus is on training in her home country. Working closely with her friend Joyciline Jepkosgei, they tirelessly prepare for the upcoming 2024 Olympics. Saina finds solace in the fact that she no longer has to compete against her fellow Kenyan runners for a spot on the team, which has brought a newfound sense of delight to their shared training sessions. Unlike many athletes, Saina sees Jepkosgei as a partner rather than a rival, resulting in effortless and harmonious workouts.
“But for Joyciline, she really wants me, you know, to be on the same calibre with her, especially knowing that she's not in the same team with me. I love training with her. And when I come back from the Trials, I'll be able to keep training with her, whatever happens,” says the Sydney Marathon champion.
In 2023, Saina displayed her competitive spirit and emerged victorious in the women's category of the Sydney Marathon. Despite facing tough competition from Rahma Tusa of Ethiopia, Saina's strategic approach allowed her to secure the title with a timing of 2:26:47, a mere six seconds ahead of Tusa. Gladys Chesir secured the third position with a timing of 2:28:41.

That's the point she knows she has achance to be in Oympics if she represents USA,but in Kenya where they are spoilt for choice, she has 1/400 chance of getting in the top 10. She is not going to win she knows that, despite what she may say...But being an Oympia to some is enough of a win
Sometime its good to see beyond your nose. You definitely cannot.Even if she does not get a medal, she gets something else which you obviously cannot see. Toto, did you attend any school, even nursery school? Oh boy!
If the winner of a marathon finishes in 2:26:47 and is 6 seconds ahead of the person in 2nd place, how could the person in 3rd place have completed the race in 2:28:41????
Lazy editing it ever was done.
With immmigration and citizenship such hot-button topics of the day, how precisely did Ms. Betsy Saina acquire USA citizenship and with it Olympic eligibility? Likewise for the many others doing big things on the USA track and field scene. And since it's such a common occurrence, why are not top performers in events in which Team USA is not world-beating taking similar paths?
World best would certainly benefit financially at best if they became American citizens. However, should there be a flood gate opened where all top runners want to run for USA, World Athletics Iam sure would step in.
As for SAina,I believe she went to collage in USA. Basically she has live pretty much in USA,so it makes sense for her. Helen Obiri is here as well. She is 34 years.Pretty much in the same age bracket as Saina. So I predict that Obiri will be the nest to switch Nationality. It's all about Benjamins.
Bridgit Kosgei the former women's world marathon was asked if she would switch her nationality to the gulf rich states, and she said yes. I wonder why she has not. certainly that got the attention of some sports authority in those states.
IF YOUR LAST OLYMPICS WAS 2016 THAT IS 8 YEARS AGO ,AM SO SORRY EVEN IF YOU MAKE IT FOR TEAM US . YOU MIGHT AS WELL KISS WINNING ANY MEDAL AT THE OLYMPICS GOODBYE. BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY YOUNG AND UPCOMING RUNNERS FROM KENYA.
RUNNERS WHO EAT REAL FOOD .
