Kenyan-born engineer, Charles Mwangi has become the latest senior executive to resign from giant United States electric carmaker Tesla.
The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) alumnus, who was a
senior director of engineering at the Elon Musk-headed company has left the position to join an unnamed start-up.
“The start-up I am joining is still under the radar, but I couldn’t be more excited to be joining this team,” Mwangi has announced on his LinkedIn account.
“In my next journey, I am lucky enough to have found that same inspiration as the early days of Tesla but in a completely different industry. A world-changing human mission. Global scale. A team with a deep commitment to excellence.”
The US automobile manufacturer hired Mwangi in 2012 and was promoted to the position of senior director of engineering in August 2018.
He worked at Toyota in Indiana between 2003 and 2005 before joining Nissan Motor Corporation in Mississippi in 2006.
He becomes the seventh top executive to resign from the California-headquartered carmaker since last year.

Is it Workhorse Group/Lordstown Motors Corp.?
Good for you Charles Mwangi, to be able to follow your dreams! But more curiously, why is Tesla hemorrhaging it senior staff? Just wondering.
O yeah!
I just resigned my job today too.
2019 sitaki ujinga.
You can't level-up with Bastards!
The guy seems to have an impressive career growth. Having said that, the notion that "...he becomes the seventh top executive to resign from Tesla" may be misleading to say the least. Senior Director is a mid level position and not a top level position leave alone a top executive position as the article portrays. This person, being a sr. director most likely reported into a Vice President, who then reports to a Sr. Vice President who then reports either to a Chief Technology Officer or to the CEO. So you can see the layers of positions and for one to be considered top executive, they need to be at least a Sr. Vice President above. in many companies, especially in the US, even a SVP is not considered a top executive. You need to be in the C-suite to be considered a top executive.
It depends on companies /organization who they consider an executive, some org a Director may report to the ED /President directly. Titles in most cases are misleading , well let me google Tesla and make an informed non bias comment ...
And so I have informed myself and you are right this is a mid level position in Tesla.

Who cares? The fact remains he is rising exponentially in his experience and graft and we are proud of him. Whether he is a mid level or executive doesn't really matter.
Money NEVER buys Happiness.😂
The best time to leave is when your star is still shining.
Every time economic depression looms in US; Kenyan's are always the first casualties and esp the CEO's. This frets me a lot and it makes the 'majuu' slogan a mere mirage. Wakenya tusilale.
Whatever you mean by "Kenyans" are the first?. This is normal when companies or organizations are re-organizing . The Mid level Execs are usually the casualties or positions that are deemed to be Non Value Adding. This happens all over the world and has nothing to do with your theory ati Kenyans or majuu economic depression blah!.
@mchumi u have spoken like 10 maumau fighters? We chase money, careers everyday n yet too much won't make u happy or not stop death from happening to us.From last year i have come to ask myself too many serious questions??Why r we so greedy about money, sucess etc.We work like shit, especially the diasporas 2/3 jobs daily to support pple n to compete n show off to the community ati wr doing good which is not the case!!Pples buying too expensive cars in loans, big houses which they don't need, taking kids in top ends schools to show off yet they r struggling financially or working 24/7 to show the pples around wako succcesful.Life is very simple but we have decided to over do it n that's the reason we will remain SHIT holes in almost entire lifetime without realising our potential in life?Guys let's search deeper in ourselves n understand really what life is??Dont worry too much about other pple aslong as ur doing the right moral thing n take it easy.If u can retire early n relax travel the world do so but if u chose to work like shit to add millions which u already have n die today hio mapesa, mashamba, manyumba zako zote will b divided among yr pple who never worked hard so enjoy yr life.
@MkenyaHalisi,Tell this to Kenyans who steal money from tax payers at every level everyday so they can build big houses, take their kids to expensive schools, shop in the malls and drive expensive cars. Keeping up with the Joneses attitude has really thrived and florished in Kenya, truth be told.
Every month we read about Kenyans doing GREAT things all over the world. Why is the government and private companies in Kenya unable to tap into this massive knowledge to improve the lives for all Kenyans and expand businesses? Why do foreign companies appreciate our own more than we appreciate them? They don't have to be in their pay roll. They just have to consult.
