A Kenyan student has died in a tragic road accident in the United States.

Silvestre Kibarar, an athlete for Eastern New Mexico University, was involved in a road crash in Portales, New Mexico on January 7th. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the New Mexico State patrol.

Kibarar schooled at Tarakwa Secondary School in Kapsabet before joining Eastern New Mexico University. The deceased was also pursuing an associate degree in nursing at Hutchinson Community College and was planning to major in Interdisciplinary Health Studies/Pre-Nursing.

Kibarar doubled in the 3,000-meters and the 5,000-meters in the 2020 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championship. He won the 3,000-meters at the 2020 NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championship and finished third in the 5,000-meters. He also recorded personal bests in the mile, 3,000, and 5,000 at the regional championship.

His family has opened a gofundme account (https://gofund.me/c5ce6483) and are appealing for financial help towards airlifting his body to Kenya for burial.

I can only imagine the pain and agony of transporting the body of a loved one back home. Rest in peace my brother. We shall all meet at the beautiful shore.
