Alfred Mutua Warns Kenyans in the Middle East Against Brewing Chang'aa

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has exposed how some Kenyans in the Middle East were found to be brewing the popular illicit brew chang'aa.
In a statement issued during a recent Interview on Citizen TV, the CS noted he learnt about the Kenyans' illegal involvement in the illicit trade during his recent visit to the gulf. He highlighted that he caught wind of the trend after a Kenyan passed on after excessive consumption of alcohol. Upon further interrogation, the authorities established that the deceased succumbed to the illicit brew.
CS Mutua further added that the consumption of alcohol is banned in the Middle East. He urged Kenyans abroad to respect the rules and customs of the host country. He added that misconduct by a few individuals ends up denying many Kenyans the opportunity to work abroad.
"We were in an Arab nation the other day and we found a Kenyan who had died because of overconsumption of alcohol. When you investigate further, you find that it is changaa," he said.
Dr Mutua further lamented the behaviour of Kenyans abroad hiding once their visas expire. Responding to this move, the CS complained that such behaviour has forced some countries to tighten their visa rules when dealing with Kenyans. He further stated that his ministry is also working with other countries to address the backlog prevalent in several embassies including that of the US.
He exuded hope that Kenyans will note the changes starting next month. The CS said the backlog issue is due to foreign countries spending hours interrogating Kenyans to identify whether they are linked to illegal activities.
