Celebrated singer Kevin Mbuvi Kioko, alias Bahati, has announced entry into politics ahead of the August 9th elections.
Bahati officially joined the Jubilee Party on Friday and declared he will contest for the Mathare parliamentary seat in the forthcoming elections.
The 28-year-old award-winning gospel musician was received to the ruling party by the Director of Elections Kanini Kega, who is also the MP for Kieni constituency.
“I am a proud member of the Jubilee Party and the Azimio Movement. From today I am mtoto wa Mathare,” Bahati said at Jubilee party headquarters in Pangani, Nairobi.
The Wanani hit-maker said his candidature is inspired by his desires to change the lives of the people of Mathare, adding that he understands their problems having been born and raised there.
“For the last three decades our biggest challenge has been that we have never received a leader who is born and bred in Mathare. It is time for Mathare to get their own son who understands them,” he added.
Bahati is seeking to unseat the current MP Anthony Oluoch, who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
He joins the growing entertainers who have ventured into politics including comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy, who is eyeing the South Imenti parliamentary seat, and Felix Odiwour aka Jalang’o, who is vying for the Lang’ata MP seat.
