President Uhuru Kenyatta has told the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) that elections will be held on August 8th as scheduled.
While reacting to calls by the opposition that the elections be postponed should electoral voting systems fail, the head of state warned that their scheme to evade the poll and force a coalition government will not work.
“I raised the issue last year when the opposition started raising queries about the IEBC (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission) that they are not ready for elections,” said the Head of State, who was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto at Ukunda in Kwale Count on Tuesday.
He added: “We declare that Kenyans will elect leaders of their choice on August 8th so that we can continue with our work.”
The President alleged that the opposition has been planning to rise to power through unorthodox means.
“They want a nusu mkate (power sharing) government,” said the President who also called for peace and unity.
In a High Court submission on Monday, NASA argued that that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had failed to name the complementary technology they will use as a backup during the August 8th polls, adding that the poll should be postponed if the technology they have in place malfunctions during voting.
Through their lawyer Paul Mwangi, NASA urged the court to compel theIEBC to postpone the elections until a complementary system is put in place.
NASA nonsense at the pinnacle. Postpone, boycott, 11 million votes, rigging, court drama and the beat goes on. Wake up NASA; the sun has risen. You knock yourselves out even before the bell rings. Absurd, dishonest, corrupt, and inept. NASA, man up.
