Aden Duale Beats Bitter Rival Farah Maalim to Retain Seat

Aden Duale, the leader of Majority in the National Assembly has trounced his rival Farah Maalim to retain his Garissa Township parliamentary seat.

Garissa Constituency Returning Officer Boru Duba declared Duale the victor after garnering 22,587 votes to Farah Maalim's 14,897 votes.

Aden Mohamed Abdullahi (135 votes) and Abdi Yare Mohamed (454 votes) were other candidates in the race to unseat Duale, who contested on a Jubilee party ticket.

Speaking moments after he was declared the winner, Duale thanked voters and supporters for showing confidence in his leadership and giving him a third term in row.

He further commended the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting a free and fair elections.

“I want to thank my party Jubilee and…all members of the party across the country because I play very critical role when we go to the field,” said Duale.

Duale was first sailed to Parliament to represent Dujis Constituency in 2007 on an ODM ticket before ditching the Raila-led party to join Deputy President William Ruto’s URP.

In 2013 general elections, he was re-elected on a URP ticket to represent Garissa Township.

The vocal MP said he was pleased that his presidential candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta is ahead of his rival Raila Odinga of ODM in the provisional results released by IEBC.
