We'll Use "Tyranny of Numbers" to Reject Secession Bill, Jubilee MP Says

A Jubilee nominated MP says that the party will use its "tyranny of numbers" in both houses of Parliament to reject a secession bill by a National Super Alliance (NASA) MP.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma is set to table the bill in Parliament that seeks to split Kenya into two countries - the People's Republic of Kenya and the Central Republic of Kenya.

However, nominated MP David Sankok has vowed that Jubilee will use its numerical advantage in the National Assembly and Senate to reject the bill, arguing it is driven by selfish interests meant to create divisions along tribal lines.

"Kaluma should be advised accordingly that his Bill is as good as dead. We in Jubilee will not hesitate to use our numbers in Parliament to ensure the Bill does not pass and unite Kenyans," Sankok told the Star.

Sankok added: "I can assure Kaluma that we will shoot down the Bill because we are opposed to dividing Kenyans on tribal lines."

ODM's Kaluma wants 40 of the 47 counties to secede and form the People's Republic of Kenya, arguing that they have suffered seclusion and marginalization under successive governments.

"This country is united and if there is anything close to secession, the counties that boycotted the October 26 presidential election should be given consideration," Sankok says further.

"As a country and as Jubilee, we are opposed to any division of this country, whether physical, ethnic or religious."

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already given Kaluma the green-light to pursue the breakaway.

If it is true we have numbers, we boycott could not have succeeded this much. It is high time we stopped pretending and hating the opposition. Why do we hate the opposition? It is only in Kenya that opposition is hated yet the law provides for it. We seriously misunderstand opposition to an extent of denying them essential services as if they don't have rights. It is this hatred that creates division leading to secession. Mombasa is already going to install their Sultan

We need an opposition that CARES for the mwananchi, period! This opposition (RAO/ODM/NASA/NRM) cares about one thing; INCLUSION IN THE EATING! We only hear them scream and throw tantrums when they are not part of the eating... keeping quiet when they get piece of the LOOT, screaming hoarse again when they are left out.

This opposition has been their since independence, WHAT CAN THEY SHOW for it? RAO, for one, has been elected by Kibra people for decades, WHAT HAS HE DONE FOR THEM? Look at the SQUALOR IN KIBRA and LUO LAND...blaming everyone for their own failures, yet, they, RAO and the other luo elected leaders (the Nyongo's etc) live HOLLYWOOD lifestyles, with THEIR KIDS well SCHOOLED outside the country, take their families for MEDICAL CARE outside the country, tell POOR KIDS to go fight the law with their BLOOD and FLESH while they lock themselves in PALATIAL HOMES, in luoland or in Nairobi and/or overseas. Where are THEIR KIDS TO FIGHT with the poor kids ON THE FOREFRONT?

This opposition keeps quiet and turns the other side when THEIR OWN are involved in WRONG DOING...yet are UP IN ARMS when other leaders in government commit the same. HYPOCRITES!

This opposition is only a CLUB of CROOKED OLD-TIMERS, WHEELER-DEALERS trying to make money whichever way possible. They DO NOTHING FOR THE MWANANCHI!

RAO/ODM/NASA/NRM - DO NOT STAND ON THE MORAL HIGH GROUND they try to portray! They are LIARS of the highest order....USERS and MANIPULATORS of its unsuspecting, young and naive followers...THEY ARE TEARING OUR COUNTRY INTO PIECES!

AUKOT EKURU might be that alternative...AN OPPOSITION THAT KEEPS THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY ON ITS TOES....not one that just wants part of the loot to turn the other way.

@justme, very well said. Thats exactly how I feel and as long as we have such kind of corrupt opposition who are also war mongers "tyranny of the numbers" will continue to rule Kenya. We surely need a better opposition in Kenya.

Secession happens only after many many years of civil war and bloodshed. You dont wake up one day with your yellow teeth and just say you want to secede. Go ask Eritrians or South sudanese

Secession does not have to be precluded by war. There are legal means look at Brexit and learn. When a marriage fails the next option is divorce.Ati tyranny of numbers most of this so called MPS would be nowhere if the elections were free and fair. You stole the elections now deal with the consequences people are unhappy and that is why they are thinking of seceding.
