12 People Perish in Grisly Road Crash at Salgaa, Nakuru

A grisly Sunday morning road crash at Salgaa area along Nakuru-Eldoret highway claimed 12 lives and left two with serious injuries.

The Sunday dawn according accident that happened at 3am involved a 11-seater PSV belonging to Great Rift Shuttle and a Mercedes-Benz Actros.

Confirming the incident, Rongai OCPD Japheth Kioko said that all passengers in the PSV vehicle died on the spot.

"All the 11 passengers and the driver of the shuttle died on the spot," Kioko told the Nation .

Kioko said the crash occurred after the 11-seater matatu driver hit a cow and lost control of the vehicle, before colliding with the truck. The truck driver and his turn boy sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.

The bodies were also taken to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital mortuary.

Salgaa area has been marked as a black spot as a result of frequent road accidents along the dangerous stretch of the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
