American Ivory Investigator Esmond Bradley Found Dead in His House in Nairobi

World's top ivory trade investigator Esmond Bradley Martin has been found dead at his residence in Lang'ata estate, Nairobi.

The 75-year-old American national was found with a stab wound in the neck at his house, where he has been staying.

He has undertaken top ground-breaking investigative reports on rhino and ivory smuggling in Kenya and its trade in China, Vietnam, and Laos. By the time of his demise, Bradley is understood to have been working on his latest report on the rhino and ivory trade.

Nairobi region Director of Criminal Investigations Ireri Kamwende said they are yet to arrest any suspects in connection to his death, but detectives have commenced investigations to bring the perpetrators to book.

"We have already questioned a gardener and a cook who are employed at the home," Kamwende said.

His wife, who reported the death, said she found her husband's lifeless body lying on the floor at around 4pm, Sunday.

The American geographer had been touring different parts of the world with colleagues Lucy Vigne and Dan Stiles on a mission to expose ivory and rhino markets and traffickers.

He has previously worked as United Nation's special envoy for rhino conservation. He will be remembered for convincing China to close down its legal rhino horn trade in 1993 and ivory trade in 2017.
