Governor Mike Sonko has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on the social media showing that he had appointed East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Simon Mbugua, as Nairobi Deputy Governor.
In a statement on his Facebook page, the Governor said the letter, which was purportedly addressed to the Nairobi County Assembly was fake.
Another letter being shared by Kenyans on the internet indicated that Mbugua had resigned from EALA to take up the position formerly occupied by Polycarp Igathe.
“I wish to inform the public that the attached letter is fake. I have not nominated my Deputy yet. I’m still consulting the Party leadership over the same,” clarified Sonko.
The two stamped letters came even as Nairobi residents wait for Sonko to name his new deputy following the resignation of Igathe on January 31st. Igathe cited frosted relationship with Sonko as reason for his exit.
Last week, Sonko shortlisted names of 22 individuals who could replace Igathe; including former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna, ex-Nairobi Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh, Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris, Citizen TV news anchor Anne Kiguta among others.
