Justice Paul Kihara has assumed office as the New Attorney-General following a swearing in ceremony presided over by President Kenyatta and attended by Deputy President William Ruto.
Justice Kihara took office as independent Kenya’s seventh Attorney General during a ceremony held at State House in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Also sworn in during the ceremony was the new Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), three Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) and five Principal Secretaries (PSs).
Noordin Mohamed Haji was sworn in as the new Director of Public Prosecutions and becomes the second holder of the office since the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2010. He was previously serving as the deputy director of the National Intelligence Service.
Those who took oath as CASs included; Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi (Environment), Hassan Noor Hassan (Sports) and Eng John Kipngetich Mosonik (Petroleum and Mining). Alfred Kipkorir Cheruiyot (Correctional Services), Jerome Okoth Ochieng (ICT), Harry Kimtai Kachuwai (Livestock), John Morangi Omenge (Mining) and Susan Jemtai Koech (EAC) were sworn in as PSs.
“You have been placed in positions of authority and respect but you have to earn that respect by the manner in which you exercise your role,” said the President. “Ensure that resources entrusted to you are used in the best interest of the public," President Kenyatta said during the ceremony.
