Caroline Wanjiru Karugu has been picked to fill the vacant Nyeri Deputy Governor seat, which remained unoccupied since November, 2017.
Karugu has been nominated by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and her name was on Thursday submitted to the County Assembly for vetting and approval.
The position became vacant after Kahiga took over as Nyeri Governor following the death of former Governor Wahome Gakuru. Gakuru died following a grisly car accident along the Thika-Murang'a Highway last November.
Earlier, Governor Kahiga had indicated he would pick a technocrat, who has qualities similar or close to those of the late Gakuru.
Ms Karugu is an Independent Non -Executive Director at the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), where she also chairs the Board Technical Committee. She has more 12 years experience in regional capital markets and financial services.
Karugu holds a Bachelor’s degree from Daystar university and a global executive MBA from United States International University. She is also an alumnus of the University of Leicester in England and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in Germany.
She has previously worked with Britam and currency serves as the Managing Director of Jabali Microserve Limited.
If approved, she will be the first female Deputy governor of Nyeri and the country’s third.
