Former Government Pathologist Moses Njue Charged with Stealing Dead Man's Heart

Former chief government pathologist Moses Njue has been charged with stealing the body part of a dead man.

Njue was arraigned in court on Tuesday and was charged with stealing a heart from the deceased, alongside his son Lemuel Anasha Mureithi Njue, who acted as his assistant pathologist.

A charge sheet indicated that Njue stole the body organ that came to his possession as the pathologist in charge. The prosecution said the incident happened during a postmortem exercise of the late Timothy Mwandi Muumba on June 25th, 2015.

Njue was also charged with a second count of destroying evidence during the postmortem exercise at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi. Njue is accused of removing and destroying the body organ to help the youngest widow of 70-year-old Muumba, cover up circumstances leading to his death.

The accused in said to have destroyed the heart in question between June and September 2015, after learning that it may be required as an evidence in a court proceedings.

Njue, who was arraigned before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, further faces a third count of illegal removal of the heart. He, however, pleaded not guilty of the charges.

The former pathologist was freed on a cash bail of Sh300,000, with trial date for the case set for July 3rd.
