Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju says there will be no Parliamentary Group meeting on Tuesday as reported earlier by a section of local press.
Speaking during a media briefing on Monday, Tuju refuted reports that President Kenyatta had convened the meeting to mend alleged cracks that threaten to split the ruling party.
“After due consultation and speaking to Majority Leader Adan Duale I can confirm that there is no Jubilee parliamentary group meeting tomorrow,” said Tuju.
Tuju also downplayed claims of divisions between President Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto's factions within the party.
“I hear about different wings in Jubilee Party. As Secretary General, I’ve been looking for these wings and I’ve not seen them. We only have legs in Jubilee… The legs of our foot soldiers working to try and deliver what we promised Kenyans in our manifesto,” said Tuju.
He continued: “This question of wings is a storm in a tea cup. We have one party, one president and one deputy President.”
The Secretary General said the party will hold a retreat in the next few weeks to discuss ways of strengthening the party.
"In the party’s last Parliamentary Group meeting, the President had offered to host MPs on a retreat program that should enable them to better articulate the transformative agenda of the party. We are on consultations on the appropriate dates for the retreat,” he said.
“I would like to assure members that there is nothing even remotely close to a crisis in the party,” he said.
