12 People Killed in a Grisly Accident along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway

12 people have been confirmed dead while several other sustained injuries after a bus they were traveling in rammed into a truck at Gilgil area on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Sunday morning.

The bus operating under Climax Sacco was heading to Nairobi from Western Kenya while the lorry was heading to Nakuru when the crash occurred. Witnesses said the bus driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when he hit the trailer at around 2am.

The truck driver attempted to swerve off the road to prevent a head-on collision but the bus, which was moving down a slope, rammed into the side of the lorry.

Confirming the accident, Gilgil Police boss Emmanel Opro said those who were injured were rushed to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.

“Eleven people died on the spot, among them seven women and four men. Four other people were taken to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital,” said Gilgil OCPD Opru.
