President Uhuru Suspends Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang' from Office

President Kenyatta has suspended Supreme Court judge Jackton Boma Ojwang' from office effective immediately.

In a special gazette notice dated March 29th, President Uhuru has appointed Justice Alnasir Visram to head a seven-member tribunal that will probe the conduct of the embattled judge.

“In the meantime, Jackton Boma Ojwang', Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya stands suspended from exercising the functions of his office with immediate effect according to Article 168 (5) of the Constitution, ”reads part of the notice.

Other members of the tribunal include Rtd. Justice Festus Azangalala, Ambrose Weda, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Lucy Kambuni, Sylvia Wanjiku Muchiri, and Amina Abdalla.

Kenyatta has also appointed lawyer Paul Nyamodi (Lead Assisting Counsel) and Stella Munyi (Assisting Counsel), to assist the team appointed to investigate Justice Ojwang'.

Peter Kariuki and Josiah Musili will act as co-secretaries to the tribunal.

“In the discharge of its functions, the Tribunal shall prepare and submit a report and its recommendations thereon to me expeditiously and exercise all the powers conferred upon it by Law for the proper execution of its mandate,” Uhuru notes.

Kenyatta has constituted the tribunal after a recommendation by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

JSC submitted the recommendation to Kenyatta after a petition for removal of Justice Ojwang' from office was filed before it by Nelson Oduor Onyango and eight others.

The petitioners accuse Justice Ojwang’ of gross misconduct, impropriety, conflict of interest and breach of the judicial code of conduct.

He is accused of making a favorable ruling in a Sony Sugar belt case that Migori Governor Okoth Obado purportedly had interests in.

In exchange, Governor Obado allegedly tarmacked a road leading to the judge’s rural residence in Migori.

This is great news and indeed this exactly the kind of steps Kenyans expect from from the Uhuru administration. Is Justice Ojwang' going to resign and the matter ends up there? This should just be a beginning of many alignments that Kenyans expect to see in days to come. President Uhuru will not achieve his big 4 agenda no matter what but if he can eliminate corruption, history will be lenient on his legacy. He will in a way exonerate his late father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who is perceived by majority of Kenyans as the father of corruption in Kenya.Indeed if he fails to prosecute those that are well known by Kenyans as real perpetrators of corruption,Kenyans will conclude that his "fight" on corruption was cosmetic and a ploy to dupe Kenyans, hence the entire Kenyatta family will be seen as a corrupt one for ever.Loosing this fight the President will be seen as part of it and in fact a protector and an instigator of the vise itself himself.
This fight cannot be seen by the world and by Kenyans in particular, to be as is in progress and serious without the eventual arrest, prosecution and imprisonment of Deputy President William Ruto, the known kingpin of corruption and outright thieve.
We Kenyans are waiting.

Corruption starts at the top. This so called supreme court judges are no better than the so called chicken thieves they send to prison. This one and Justice Mwilu should serve time and then the former AG Wako her bff can visit her in prison. Not only would it make for juicy gossip but would serve as a major deterrence and good example that no one is above the law in Kenya

What took you so long Mr. President. Don't stop there. Get rid of all the judiciary one by one. They are all corrupt as hell. Send all of them to their homes and start afresh. We have normalize extreme corruption by all government employee. It should not be normal at all. The citizens should demand better from the public officials.
