Two Detectives Interdicted for Covering Up Lawyer Assa Nyakundi in Son's Killing Case

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has interdicted two detectives for allegedly covering up lawyer Assa Nyakundi in a case where he is accused of killing his son.

Kinoti says the two officers assigned to probe the killing of Joseph Bogonko colluded with two prosecutors in order to have Nyakundi charged with manslaughter instead of murder.

Nyakundi told police that he was trying to holster his firearm while in the car when he accidentally shot his son in the chest.

However, an autopsy report revealed the 29-year-old was shot from outside the car and succumbed to excessive bleeding.

“The shot projection from the chest exiting at the back suggested that whoever shot him was standing outside the rear right back door of motor vehicle KCE 753B Toyota Axio which belongs to the father of deceased,” the report reads in part

Nyakundi was last Friday charged with manslaughter and was freed on a cash bail of Sh300,000 and Sh1 million surety.

Kinoti says an inquiry on how the case was bungled has been opened, adding that he was by-passed in approval of the final investigation file that was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

“We will be applying to have a murder charge on him because there is overwhelming evidence,” Kinoti says.

Lawyer Nyakundi's wife and son have offered to testify against him.
