County Gov't Driver Arrested Ferrying over Sh1 Million in Cash

Police officers have arrested a driver attached to the Samburu County government after he was found transporting more than Sh1 million in cash.
Confirming the arrest, Samburu County Police Commander Karanja Muiruri said the 38-year-old suspect could not account for Sh1,099,000 found in a county government vehicle he was driving.
The driver was apprehended by police officers manning a roadblock at Learata area along Isiolo-Moyale Highway.
The driver is being held at Archers Police Station pending arraignment in court on Monday.
Karanja said security officers found the money in bundles of Sh1,000 notes packed in a bag and placed on the Toyota Fortuner vehicle's back seat.
The driver failed to explain the source of the money and its intended use.
“The driver could not account on the source of the money or its intended use, hence the reason for the arrest as police try to establish the source of the money and where it was being taken to,” Karanja said.
