Nairobi Building Collapse Death Toll Climbs to 10

The death toll from the six-storey building that collapsed in Tassia Estate in Nairobi on Friday has climbed to 10 after three more bodies were retrieved from under the rubble on Sunday evening.

The three include two children and a male adult, according to Embakasi OCPD David Apima. One more person was also rescued alive, putting the number of survivors at 36.

A rescue team drawn from Kenya Defense Forces, the National Disaster Management Unit and the Kenya Red Cross continues to drill through the rubble in search of the missing persons. About 10 people remain unaccounted, Kenya Red Cross said.

“We still don’t know how long this operation will take… We cannot say for sure,” said Embakasi Assistant County Commissioner James Wanyoike.
