22-Year-Old Kenyan Woman Gives Birth to Quadruplets

A 22-year-old Kenyan woman successfully gave birth to quadruplets at the Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County on Thursday.

Faith Chepngetich Tonui naturally delivered two boys and two girls, with health officials at the hospital saying she was doing well after the delivery.

“The mother is doing well, she can walk around without any complication, the challenge is in her diet, which we are working on,” a nurse said.

The infants, weighing 1.4, 1.3, 1.2 and 1.1 kilograms, respectively were born prematurely and were placed in an incubator, from where they will be monitored for two months to gain weight.

Usually, the arrival of a new baby is a joyful moment for every mother but this is not the case for Faith, a casual laborer at Silibwet trading center. She expressed her fears that the medical bill might shoot beyond her means since she and her babies will have to stay in the hospital longer than she expected.

“My husband is not employed, I have another child at home, we sometimes sleep on empty stomachs, now I don’t know,” Faith said.

She juggles between doing laundry for pay and picking tea at Silibwet shopping center.

"My husband is not employed, I have another child at home, we sometimes sleep on empty stomachs, now I don’t know,” .... Why decide to have more children in a financially unstable environment?

I am sure she was not going for 4, but now that 4 came it is not time to blame her. The government said maternity services would be free. The county government should waive the bill as this is the county function though she is in a mission hospital.

Hard working kenyans who cannot afford a meal but Uhuru wants kenya to get a seat at UN security council. Uhuru please focus on Kenyans. You can't fight for africans when you have failed the Kenyans.

Congratulations lady. You are contributing to Kenya's foremost industry, the production and multiplication of labor and human resources. Now can someone please provide the jobs?

@Nani are you suggesting that this pregnancy was planned? Folks who cannot afford dinner cannot afford contraception. This lady would love to have her tubes tied but she definitely has no financial resources for such a procedure. Mambo kwa ground ni hard.
