20,000 Covid-19 Test Kits, 100,000 Masks Donated by Chinese Billionaire Jack Ma Arrive in Kenya

A consignment of medical equipment donated by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma to help Kenya fight the coronavirus epidemic has arrived in Kenya.

The package containing 20,000 Covid-19 testing kits, 100,000 masks, and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday afternoon from Addis Ababa aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

The delivery is part of the 1.1 million testing kits, six million masks and 60,000 medical use protective suits and face shields donated to Africa by the Alibaba co-founder.

Ma said each of the 54 African countries will receive 20,000 testing kits, 100,000 masks and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields to combat the dreaded virus.

Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation will also provide online training material for COVID-19 clinical treatment to African medical institutions.

“We cannot ignore the potential risk to Africa and assume this continent of 1.3 billion people will blissfully escape this crisis. The world cannot afford the unthinkable consequences of a COVID-19 pandemic in Africa,” said Ma in a statement last week.
