15 Kenyan Students Evacuated from Sudan Test Positive for Covid-19

15 Kenyan university students who arrived in the country last week from Sudan have tested positive for Covid-19.

The 15 are among 129 students who were stranded in Sudan for months following the outbreak of  Covid-19.

The group landed at Mombasa International Airport aboard a Kenya Airways chartered flight from Khartoum, Sudan on Saturday. On Thursday, Mombasa County Chief Officer for Health Dr. Khadija Shikelly said 83 of the students were tested for the virus and 15 received positive results.

“They have been transferred to Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Covid-19 Treatment Centre,” Shikelly said, adding that the remaining 46 students are still waiting for their results.

Upon arrival, all the students were sent into 14-day mandatory quarantine at Kenya School of Government in Mombasa.

Their evacuation was facilitated by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, Lamu East MP Athman Shariff, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, and Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal, who raised funds for their tickets.

The students hail from various Coastal Kenya counties including Mombasa, Lamu, Kilifi, and Kwale.

So far, Kenya has recorded 6,941 cases of Covid-19, 2,109 recoveries, and 152 fatalities.

You mean Kenyans go to school in Sudan? Kenyan schools are so much better. Perhaps they had scholarships. I wish them a quick recovery.

I was about to praise the Leaders but my reading found out that the evacuees were frm Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale leaving out other parts of Kenya. imagine How it wld feel for Wanjiku sharing a room with Fatuma who is evacuated and then she (wanjiku) is left stranded. These leaders did good for their coastal counties but lacks National outlook. A wake up call.
