The government has declared Saturday, October 10th, a public holiday to celebrate Huduma Day.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the holiday will be observed through national prayers that will highlight service and volunteerism to the community.
“Kenyans are encouraged to participate in the prayers and promote national unity, social justice, cohesion and sustainable development in their communities for the benefit of present and future generations,” Matiang’i said in a statement.
October 10th was previously being marked as Moi Day before the Cabinet approved its renaming to Huduma Day last December.
State House explained that the renaming was in line with the later former President Daniel Moi’s desire that the day be commemorated as a day of service and volunteerism. Moi, who served as the country’s second President for 24 years, died on February 4th aged 95.
President Kenyatta on Thursday announced three days of national prayer starting Friday to Sunday.
On Saturday, Uhuru will convene an inter-faith national prayer service at State House from 10 am.
“The interfaith prayer service will be broadcast live to the entire country on all leading television, radio, and digital media platforms,” said State House spokesperson Kanze Dena.
Pray for the end of corruption, waste of time.
