8 Injured After Sh379 Million Nyamira County Assembly Building Under Construction Collapses

Eight people were injured after the Nyamira County Assembly building, which is under construction, collapsed on Thursday evening.
The eight were among 51 people who were on site when the incomplete structure crumbled, according to Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba.
Health CEC Dr. Silas Ayunga said five people suffered minor injuries and were treated and discharged while three are admitted at Nyamira County Referral Hospital and are in stable condition
Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Moffat Teya directed the Department of Public Works to investigate the incident and give a comprehensive report.
“The incident is very unfortunate coming at a time when the County Assembly is constrained for office space for both Members of the County Assembly and Staff,” he said.
“I urge our good residents to be calm and that once the Report from the Contractor, the Project Manager, and the entire team of Engineers is ready we shall publicize it to the public to know what exactly transpired.”
The three-storey building, which is being constructed at a cost of Sh379 million, was set to host the Nyamira County Assembly and offices.
